I'll be rooting for whoever we play to beat us as long as Paz is the coach. 0-31 if that's what it takes to get rid of him.

Gumdrop will be the coach for 2 more years and then it'll take 3-4 to rebuild after that. Memphis basketball is going to suck for a long time.

I'll take that bet on the two years. And the 3-4 years is longer than it took Fuente to bring us from #126 to top 25. In football.

It took him 3 years and it was a miracle. Clown Show and a couple of boosters have killed Tiger BB.

What if we don't make a really good hire after we finally wipe Paz off the bottom of our shoes? Then what?

If it takes an extended time to get back in the top 20, we will have hired the wrong guy.

Basketball is a quick fix sport and as an established "name" in a basketball community, we've traditionally turned around the program quickly as soon as we've fixed hiring mistakes.

It'll be a minimum of three years after Clown Show is gone.

I think he's here at least 2 more season.

Then New Guy will have spend years 1 and 2 fumigating the program.

Year 3 of New Guy is the absolute earliest we get back to the NCAA and more likely year 4 and then only if we make a great hire.

I will not be rooting for Tiger hoops until Paz is gone. 0-31 if that's what it takes to get him gone.

I don't think you get it...0-31 won't do it...10.6 Million will (or 7.95 Million at the end of next season)

No I get it. He's here for two more years, maybe three.

Maybe he will negotiate the lower payout. Just start booing him and doing whatever possible to make his life miserable.

If a 2/3 empty Fed Ex Forum didn't do it this year then nothing will. He's there as long as the big boosters want him there. They clearly don't need me or any of the rank and file fans so I'll give them what they've asked for. Nothing.

Whatever happens next happens. Keeping Paz one year delays the recovery time by a year. Nothing more or less than that.

And what I took the bet on was you saying Pastner will be here 2 more years. No, he won't.

You also said it would take 3 to 4 years for the new guy to turn around basketball, and 4 years is longer than it took Fuente in FOOTBALL.

Go back in history and see how long it took us to turn it around after Moe Iba recorded 8, 6 and 6 wins, 3 years in a row. You're likely overstating the impact.

And just to be clear, I'm not supporting Pastner. I want him gone now. But he isn't staying 2 more years, and we can recover less than 4 seasons after the new guy, if we make the right hire.

Not firing Pastner now is costing us one year in the recovery process, whatever it is.

It has to do with forking over $10 million vs boosters. Think about large boosters and the thought of pissing away their money on a buyout.

If I were a major booster, I would consider the following:

(1) $10.6 million is better spent on positive reinforcement of the athletic program than on paying someone not to coach.

(2) Just as it is bad policy to pay ransom to kidnappers, it is bad policy to reward malcontent fans with a new coach every time they "vote with their feet". In both cases, giving in only encourages repeated incidents in the future.

(3) Pastner's excellent overall winning record combined with the fact that he runs a clean program, keeps his players out of trouble and sees that they graduate should not be ignored.

I'm not a "Pastner fan". I support the University of Memphis and what is best for it overall. Coaches come and go - been watching it for 48 years.

The 10.6 million is spent money whether Gumdrop is coaching or not. The only money in question is the new money it would take to hire another coach.
