He CAN, but he won't. He says his reason is that he wants to get his MBA at a different school in order to have a more diversified resume. I don't understand how he can do that, though. I thought you could only do the fifth year- play immediately thing if you went to a school in a program not offered at your current school. WMU has an MBA program. Tava won't go in the MAC, IMO, because he seems very grateful to Hawkins for his only schollie offer. He may pick a higher profile school to improve his shot at a pro career, but he sounds like he plans to move on into the business world after his MBA.
It has to have a different program while WMU might have an MBA program there may be a specific area of specialization that DePaul or UT offers that WMU does not. That is part of the transfer requirement I remember that being mentioned when the you man from Michigan played for us as a Masters student.

RE: Men's BB Offers Standout College Division II Transfer
There are two ways to move between schools as a graduate: The grad transfer exemption, and the grad transfer waiver.

Athletes in sports other than football, basketball & hockey can transfer once, and only once between schools and play right away. That is known as the one-time transfer exemption. For those other 3 sports, the player can only transfer and play right away if they have already graduated. The trick again, is that a player can only use either exemption once. There is no requirement on the type of graduate program the player enrolls in in that case.

However, if a player has already transferred once, then they are no longer eligible for the graduate transfer exemption, so if they want to move to another school and play right away, they need a waiver. In this case there needs to be some additional circumstances to allow approval to play right away, and one of them is the player has to enroll in a program the previous school didn't offer.

I don't think Tava transferred before, so there should be no restriction on what program he enrolls in, if I am reading the rules correctly.

This page explains it pretty well: http://www.athleticscholarships.net/2013...waiver.htm

Excellent. Thank you. It is a bit confusing.
