Looks like we're heading to UTEP for round 2...grrreeaaaat. WNIT has a slight geography problem, leaving us far away from teams like St. Louis and Memphis in the bracket, and instead sending us to freaking El Paso practically every season. It's easier for us to get to Los Angeles than it is El Paso.

Your university could always outbid us or outdraws or however it works so that you can host. Force us to find a way into Jonesboro which is also not very easy to do.

Low priority tournament Administration will not host events unless it is a guarantee we can make money off it. WNIT is a money loser generally, so on the road we go.
I think we've hosted 2 rounds in this tournament once in our history, and that was because we got matched against Arkansas, and were able to bid significant amounts of money because it was a sure sell out.

So basically you have to travel. Even if you ended up in the Memphis or St Louis "bracket" that's only one game. Then if you win you're on the road again.
Either way complaining about having to travel to El Paso is not cool. You had the same opportunity as we did to host the event. It isn't a pre seeded tournament where the lower seed travels all the time.
I'm not too familiar with your town but I can't find any flights into the Jonesboro airport except from St Louis. As opposed to being able to flight into El Paso from any major city. Maybe the problem is on your end as to why you have such a difficult time getting into El Paso.

Jonesboro airport is a very small airport that can only handle Smaller private based aircraft. We generally fly out of Memphis, which is an hour away. The issue we have with WNIT travel is that the tournament books the travel, and generally books the cheapest option available. 2 years ago, rather than booking a flight out of Memphis, or even Little Rock (2 hours away), the WNIT had the general foresight to book us flights out of Nashville. (5 hours away) Meaning we had to bus 5 hours East, to hop on a plane to fly to I believe Atlanta or OKC or somwhere, and then catch a connecting flight to El Paso. It took a full day, and our administration labeled it ridiculous.
I think we understand that we're going to have to travel...we're just annoyed that while we're heading to El Paso, and then potentially California if we win that one, Little Rock, who refused to even bid to host a single game in this tournament was looking at St. Louis, Memphis, UTM, and WKU as potential road games.

We played them earlier this year. They shoot a ton of 3's and have a very good point guard, but are not very big. I don't know enough about WKU to know how likely they are to win, but I am not surprised at all that they beat Memphis, who is heavily overrated.

Are you even looking at the bracket at all???
If you beat UTEP, your next foe would be the winner of Eastern Michigan and TCU, neither of which are located in California. Your only chance of going to California is if the opening matchup of Fresno St and Santa Clara advanced to the quarterfinals. You are much more likely to end up in Oregon or Spokane, Washington in that round though.
UALR had the prospect of road games against St. Louis, then Ball St or Iowa, THEN WKU or UT-Martin.

I don't mind getting outbid. I mind the fact that the #1 and #3 highest RPI teams in the field are set to play in the second round.

We are not big either so that helps us...However we are not great against the 3, that is one of our biggest weakness...Might come down to the wire, if we win this game almost certain we go to Iowa to play...That will be a tough one as Iowa was one of the last teams left out of NCAA tournament...

No they shouldn't.
Because you play the entire tournament on home courts, keeping a regional aspect makes sense. You can reduce travel and create interesting matchups that will help the gate. A purely seeded tournament would have teams flying back and forth across the country.

Wow I see that now, my bad..... we lost to Ball St. first game would be nice to get some revenge on them, that could have been the difference in us getting an at large bid...Minnesota is going to be tough to beat with that girl scoring 50 points every game, she must be the real deal...

For the record, this year the WNIT forced AState to bus 9 hours to Dallas, spend the night in a Dallas Hotel, and then lining up an afternoon flight to get us from Dallas to El Paso.

That's brutal. Why not bus to Memphis and fly from there to El Paso. It's only a five hours flight with one stop in either Dallas or Houston.
Hopefully your ladies are jet lagged and that gives us an even bigger advantage.

RE: WNIT
I would have thought more folks in the league would have taken notice of how our ad handled this last year. He made it plain, we have to sell x number for this game to host the next game and we will let you buy a round ahead. He promised to do everything to keep the girls at home the entire time.
And its hard to argue against the results he got.
