Just like Saint Patrick's day. In Ireland it's a sensible holiday which in the US has been latched onto by Irish Americans.

All this, of course, distracts from the fact we're not butthurt if someone wants to waive an American flag around the school on Saint Patrick's day.

That's because it doesn't happen. That's my point.

1 - So you're done claiming it's not a Mexican Holiday... That's progress
2 - Please prove that nobody wore red white and blue at a high school yesterday.

I work at a school where uniforms are required so yes no one wore red, white, or blue.

Just for the record though, these kids aren't just wearing red, white, or blue, they are wearing the actual flag. Which in my opinion, is disrespecting the flag.

As for it being a holiday. I misspoke. It might be a holiday but what I meant to say is that it really isn't celebrated in Mexico like it is here in the Southwestern United States.

At dam near every international soccer game the fans wear flag shirts representing their country. The opposite of disrespect.

Maybe it's just be but I think wearing the American flag as a T shirt is disrespectful.

Quote:Cinco de Mayo is a holiday in Mexico where students have the day off from school, and banks and government offices close in some states. Celebrations in Puebla, where the battle took place, outshine those held elsewhere in Mexico. In Puebla the event is commemorated with parades and a battle reenactment.

We have over a hundred Mexican restaurants in Louisville with many more including some High end ones on the way. Louisville celebrates Cinco de Mayo proudly as many Louisvillians are good friends with the owners and staffs of these great restaurants we go to often. Louisville is a very diverse city that features some of the best Food from many different backgrounds. It would be hard to find a city that has more to offer for it's size. 04-cheers

So you aren't going to be protesting these celebrations with American flags screaming go back to Mexico?

I hear that Mexico is going to stop participating in the Summer Olympics. It turns out that all the Mexicans that can run, jump and swim are in the US.

So no kids wore RWB on cinco de mayo either... Why are your panties in such a twist?

FTR I also consider wearing the flag as being tacky... Sometimes liberty means letting people do tacky things.

Which is 100% in line with what I said about saint patricks day..

Which again gets us away from the fact Mexican-Americans are bitching about America on Cinco De Mayo but the Irish don't complain on St Patricks day..

My issue is that people seem to get upset when Mexicans celebrate Cinco de Mayo but have no issue with St. Patrick's Day.

You stated earlier that Mexicans don't celebrate it. What people get upset if they were upset why would that be an issue for you?

Scroll back up to the story I posted. Because some people use it as an opportunity to harass children for starters.

So why are you upset? Do you get your panties in a bunch every time somebody does something stupid?
BTW... apparently there's some thin-skinned SJW's who are getting their feels hurt over St. Patrick's Day too.

I don't get upset. I just think it's unfortunate that in this day and age that we still have to see stuff like this happen.

Why would mexicans, in the USA, get upset about school kids wearing a usa flag shirt at school? They mexicans can still celebrate cinco. Why would they want to celebrate a mexican military win over the french, while living in the usa?

It is an American drinking holiday anyway.

I don't know, you'd have to ask them. Apparently however, it's so much of a problem that the school had to take drastic measures in order to protect the other kids.
