I might be the first to mention it here, but has already been discussed on the ECU boards.

I have to add, I applaud the ECU fans on here who genuinely want to see ECU men’s basketball fixed and are vocal about it.

I’ve said it before, the AAC doesn’t need ECU competing for a national championship, although that would be nice, just get inside the 150-125 RPI range and be in the mix for the NIT. It will do wonders for the conference and everyone’s strength of schedule.

And that's not unreasonable, however there is a sect of ECU supporters that have given up and accepted the fact that we may never be competitive in men's hoops, and they're ok with that, because we have baseball and football.

Well at Temple we had plenty of fan resistance during the dark years of football (prior to Al Golden) and the program was 1 BOT vote away from elimination. Back in 2005 when Temple was 0-11 with an average margin of defeat of about 40, and 2006 in Goldens first season at 1-11 where the average margin of defeat dropped to 30, playing as an independent then in the MAC, to get to the point of being a top 25 team for part of the season in 2015, most fans back then would have said it was impossible.

If the university wants to commit the resources, with the exposure this conference gets, making your program competitive in basketball is very doable.

According to the question portion at the bottom of the article, it appears that ECU will try to join UConn, Cincy, and Temple in the Big East for women's lacrosse. Good move. I am hoping that the Big East admits ECU since it only makes sense. ECU is almost smack dab in the middle of these schools:

http://www.bigeast.com/standings.aspx?st...&path=wlax

Nope. Good move if you're UConn and have a $60M plus athletic budget. Stupid move if you're ECU and have ~$35M budget.

I've blown up our AD and entire BOT's inbox twice in as many weeks over Lebo and now this ******* nonsense. Got a standard reply but that at least confirms they had to read it.

I am sick and tired of being the laughingstock of NC basketball. It doesn't make any sense that we can't get something going and at least be competitive in the biggest sport in NC. If Kinston NC can put a handful of players in the NBA, then ECU should be able to find a freaking RPI of 100 or better every now and again. There is a lot of talent around Greenville. GO FIND IT and SIGN IT.

On the positive side, lacrosse has become much more visible on ESPN of late, so maybe this will goose our marketing department into making a new freakin' ECU commercial to air during sporting events.

Do you know how long adding a new sport takes? This likely has been in the works for months if not a whole year.

I'm trying to get Igoe of HTC to do a FOIA request to see about this Adidas deal paying for the sport because that doesn't smell right from any of the press that was out when the thing got announced with Adidas. If we were already Title IX compliant why would be take resources needed for all the other projects we need to do to add a sport that is non-revenue.

LAX is a growing sport and gets more regular tv coverage than baseball and softball. It's not a bad sport to add, plus adding the women first makes it easier than adding men first if you're going to stagger them.

Not to mention it's another use for the soccer stadium which means more bang out of the money spent for that.

EDIT: Just read article, and the Adidas line is exactly what I alluded to. It takes time to add a sport, so this has no affect on Lebo's job.

As I said and the link alludes to, this has been in the works for months. This has no bearing on what will happen to Lebo and the announcement was likely scheduled for over a month. If you think this was just decided and passed today or even this month you are naive.

And to further add to the point, any news on Lebo likely won't come until a Friday where the bad news can be buried. Standard PR tactic.

Well we did get our first road win over Memphis this year, that's worthy of a few dollars more. 03-banghead

Gotta be a Title 9 thing...ECU could actually become pretty good at the sport...however don't expect any contact in the sport (hate the rules of women's lax)...and crowds of 1-200 are likely.

But are the trends having more women being admitted?

The other thought is Men's Lax will follow shortly.

Stop thinking short term. We add women first, open up a new recruiting pipeline and connections with university's we rarely talk to normally. Then when it's a success we add men and we are certain we are still compliant and already have connections and pipelines.
