Trend of Moving Spring Practices
First Michigan and now apparently Ohio State will conduct practices in Florida. Wonder if UC will consider doing the same. Obviously Ohio State is doing this for recruiting purposes. What's more it will give the Florida players on their roster a crack at visiting friends and family.

Alternatively, the other thought I have raised before is UC should consider conducting some practices in Dayton. I think it would go along way into further cementing UC's brand in the Miami Valley. Having an article or two in the Dayton Daily News about UC football would go a along way in spreading the brand. The players and coaches could go visit some kids at Dayton Children's Hospital and the head coach could speak at one of the area high schools while they are up there.

"I think it's creative," Meyer told Sara Perlman of WUFT-TV. "I'm looking into it for next year and maybe the future, too. It's creative and if it's good for the players, we'll probably do it."

Meyer said he was concerned about taking away spring break for the players, which has been expressed elsewhere.

Perlman posted the video on her Twitter account on Tuesday, but it appears the interview may have taken place on Saturday as Meyer played in Tebow's golf event in St. Augustine, Florida.

I don't see UC moving practices to Florida anytime soon, but I do like your idea about having some practices in Dayton. I remember the Bengals even held a training camp practice up in Springboro a couple years ago.

No reason why UC couldn't hold practices at Centerville and/or Wayne. (or maybe somewhere else that has a big time senior recruit that year COGS) Def help to spread exposure up here even if it just gets the attention of the player who will only go to college as a student. Hell, UC could hold practices in NKY to help to increase their exposure in the area 03-lmfao

The coaches won't give up the sheltered confines of Shakely Center were they can practice rain, snow or sunshine.

Hell, we could use more exposure in Cincinnati. We're two thirds of the way through spring practice and there's been next to no coverage of it locally. You get a one off video or player profile piece on gobearcats.com. But I can't tell you whether the defense is improved, who's stepping up at WR, how the young RBs are looking, etc. I'll see for myself at the spring game I guess.

Very true. The only real option is to pay the money to become a member of BCJ and a lot of people simply can't or do not want to pay for membership of a website. Alternatively, what I find myself doing is to scower multiple twitter accounts and websites to find as much information as you can. It is a real shame there is not a radio show, a weekly article in print media or a free website that provides this content on a regular basis.

Yes, I suppose Cincinnati.com is too busy covering X's "greatest team ever".

But on a more serious note, any inroads the football program can make into the Dayton market would be a plus. If we want to claim Dayton as soon becoming a part of a combined metro area, the entire University should be setting a strategy to increase exposure and engage alumni and fans. Even a spring game @ Welcome Stadium could be a mini-road trip for folks inside I-275 and a chance for Dayton alumni and fans to show the colors in their town. With a little effort, UC could create a memorable event.

When (if) Big 12 football comes to UC, there should be a push for capturing a cohort of fans from the Cincinnati to Dayton corridor. We need to change the mindset that our fan base is limited to Greater Cincinnati. UC has more than 100,000 living alumni statewide.

Last time I checked, Centerville is #8 or #9 on UC's list of top feeder schools.

Great point. With all the consolidation in the local radio market, there is abundant airtime filled each week with mindless syndicated talk or national sports content. I think the burden is on UC to some degree to pitch such a show to 700, 1360 or 1530. I'm sure it's a BYOS; bring your own sponsors deal but promote it through gobearcats.com and I think you could build a following. Of course it's generational too--most Millennials don't know what a radio is.

This is ridiculous. The only schools that can afford to do this are the big heavyweights with countless $$. I agree it is creative and a nice loophole that Harbaugh discovered, but I cant imagine the NCAA will allow this to happen after this year.

The NCAA shut down teams hosting summer camps in other states. That used to be a popular thing to do. Rutgers used to do it I believe in Florida. This won't last long.

Are they going to go after the basketball preseason international trips too?

The NCAA will never be able to keep up. Saban, Harbaugh, Meyer, etc. are just going to continue to find things like this to do.

I think the most under-appreciated aspect of this was the team chemistry and bonding purpose of this trip. It reminded me NFL teams going away for training camp.

Would love to see UC have a practice in Dayton. I would like to see them try one in the Cleveland area. We need a bigger presence in Northern Ohio.

I like the signs.
Sure, the overly ... "Christ-ie" people who put them, up are a bit paranoid; but without them, there's no culture. I get sick of looking at buildings and pavement, they're sterile and lifeless. It's a quirky piece of Americana, and to piss that away, just leaves us with walmarts/shopping malls and fast food chains. No shame in a place having a personality.

There is no shelter at Higher Ground.

They could move a the last practice of the fall to a point in the area.

I am pretty sure the NCAA frowns on a University practicing at the school of a recruit, though.
