Rice Alumni Houston - lots of events coming up
After being out of the country last week, I am just now reading the March edition of the Houston-area alumni update, and there are a ton of cool things coming up, including:
- Beer Bike on 3/19,
- Builder's Award on 3/20,
- Brains in a Bar on 3/26,
- Baseball Tailgate & Crawfish Biol on 4/09,
- Rice Engineering Alumni Picnic on 4/16,
plus lectures, book clubs, happy hours and the annual Laureates Dinner on 5/14.

Please take a look!

This was not in the alumni newsletter, but it worth its own mention: the quadrennial showing of the "Hello Hamlet!" by Wiess Tabletop Theater has three more performances: 3/17, 3/18, and 3/19. Here is the info:

Quote:The time has come. We have been waiting FOUR years for this. Hello Hamlet, a musical written by a former Wiessmen George Greanias (Wiess '70) in 1967, is performed only ONCE during each student's career. You'll have six chances to see the Rice renowned play, Hello Hamlet! Come out, support your fellow Rice students, and enjoy this legendary performance!

Showings:
Thursday-Saturday, March 10-12 and 17-19
Doors will open at 7:30 PM and the play starts at 8 PM.

Prices:
$10 general, $5 for students and children

* We are taking alum names and counts for reservations. You will need to show up before 7:45 PM to ensure the reservation. Email wiesstabletop@gmail.com

I had a great part (the Messenger) in this play as a senior, and a cameo as an alum several years ago. But my fondest memory was watching the 2008 production with Dr Bill, two years after he had retired from Rice and moved to Vermont. It was a great production, and it turned out to the last one he saw.
