Ohio has a real shot at both the NIT and CBI... Nice way to finish the season.

Do you guys have to pay for every hosted game or just the one time?

The CBI has a minimum ticket guarantee, the amount a school pays to host a game: The guarantees are $35,000 for first-round games, $50,000 for the quarterfinals and $75,000 per game for the semifinals and the best-of-three finals.

If a team hosts the max amount of games, it would cost 310k.

The linked article providing the numbers areis 4 years old. I cant find it documented anywhere, but I was told that after paying to host the first two games, Ohio won't have to pay to host the semi-final against Morehead St. If this is true, I would guess the fee structure has changed now that ESPN is involved. They are picking up the best of three championship series this year.

EDIT: It appears I wasn't 100% told correctly. But still better than a flat fee I think. The linked tweet below from Ohio's beat writer Jason Arkley has some details.

@JasonAmessenger Wrote:1st 2 games in CBI cost Ohio $40K each. No upfront cost now moving forward, but CBI gets ticket revenue instead. Crowd of 3,567 tonight

That's good to hear. That makes the tournament less of a drain to the tight budgeted athletic departments and provides an incentive to get more teams to participate. 85k to get 1-4 on the ESPN networks seems like a bargain.

Can anyone explain where all this money is going?

There are 8 first round games, and four second round games. At $40k a pop, that's just shy of half a million at $480000. And then moving on, the CBI gets all the ticket revenue? Is the money paying for getting the championship best-of-three broadcast on ESPNU? Or?

The traveling team I believe receives something in compensation. There is also some overhead expenses. Maybe someone else has more detailed information.

Ahhh, I didn't realize visiting teams get compensated. Makes more sense.

Yea I had read that part of the 40K (or so) the CBI charges is used to offset travel cost.

tough losses by the Cats and the Cards men's teams on Wednesday but congrats to both clubs for each winning 2 post season games.

only 2 teams left in the post season- NIU men who start the V8 tournament on Monday, and Ohio women who play the Sweet 16 of the NIT at Temple on Thursday.
