That is what happens when there's no money to be had.

Are the tournament teams matched up 1-16 or is it just regional?

They seed it mostly regional. Sometimes you get a San Diego at Northwestern. But otherwise it is normally stuff like Marshall at Ohio or Virginia at VCU. Within general regions, they have a very basic seeding format.

But the WNIT is structured to maximize the gate receipts as teams bid to host each round.
