BYU vs Harvard highlights from the Diamond Head Classic in December. This Harvard team smoked Auburn the next day.

If we would have played Auburn late in the year we would smoke them. Comparing scores are fun but I would not put a lot of stock in it. I would look more that the matchups and while we have some disadvantages we have some advantages as well. If we come to play and withstand the storm surge we could have a shot to end in the end. If our minds are not right we will get clocked.

I'd much rather us go play at BYU where they'll have 17-20k than some P5 school who is indifferent about being in the NIT. We've played our best in the bigger environments (other than last week).

Plus, let's also think about how BYU isn't going to be coming at us like WKU did. We were their sole target in the conference tournament.

Not saying it will be an easy game, but our last game definitely isn't a good indicator of how we'll play in this one.

They are completely opposite in style than WKU. They'll dabble in the paint but will look primarily to score from the perimeter and fast break. We must get easy baskets and look for high percentage shots early. Worst case scenario BYU does what SFA and Middle did at Bartow...hit 8 or 9 first half 3's.

I compared BYU to Marshall in the preview because of their pace of play. Their personnel compares a little more to La Tech. Alex Hamilton is a big point guard who is capable of getting triple doubles much like BYU's Collinsworth. A couple of their wings are big like Tech's. Biggest difference in the two teams is they don't have a banger like McCree. Their guards and forwards account for the majority of their paint points and rebounds.

I'm not going to say our team is as good as Gonzaga, but, we're not too far off. The Zags bigs give them fits every time they play. We need to feed Cokley often and avoid giving Tosin the ball ever again.

Tosin should try and dunk the ball for goodness sake. How many baby layups has he missed? His best play is the dunk off of a high screen or a uncontested put back. His worst is feeding him in the post and letting him try and get a shot off. He has missed uncontested layups where if he would have actually jumped and dunked it would not be an issue.

Affirmative. If Coach Catlin were still alive and here, Tosin would still be running laps from last season.

I'm typically a really positive and supportive Blazer fan. After last Thursday I've become a little bit more rigid. Tosin is a great teammate but it's becoming very obvious he is the weak link in this team. A legit post player is what separates this team from the NIT/First Round and the Sweet 16 next year. I love Chris Cokley's game. He's just not built to anchor the interior against bigger teams. He has his purpose and he is great at what he does. If Haase could have landed Ruskus Gustys...

Haas realized he was a big time player towards the end. His numbers this year are ridiculous given his minutes. I'll take anyone in between the two we missed on last year.

RE: UAB / BYU Preview
We have to hope that Tosin continues to get stronger and put on more muscle. He needs to be our enforcer, rebounder, and shot altering big man down low. That should be his only role. He doesn't need to be catching the ball outside the three point line at the top of the key, catching passes off of screens (probably the worst hands I've ever seen), or even trying to post up in the traditional sense. He also needs to come off the bench in my mind. Baxter as well, probably. They need to be role players. It's obvious our best lineup will NOT have Baxter and Mehinti in at the same time. Sullivan actually played very well in the post in our last few regular season games. I didn't think that was really his game, but if he can beef up and provide that role off the bench as well, that'd be huge.

At this point of the season I'd like to see the best 5 players start. Brown, Norton, Cokley, Lee, and Dirk. I understand the argument that if the minutes are distributed fairly evenly it shouldn't matter who starts. I beg to differ. Too many times I've see us get off to slow offensive starts. When we have Mehinti and Baxter on the floor teams have a pretty good idea that the offense is going to go through the other 3 players first. With the 5 players I've mentioned the offense can literally go through any of them. Baxter and Mehinti are CUSA players. That's about it. Dirk and Haha/Cokley are big time players. I think it's fantastic having depth. At some point though you have to let the best players get the lion's share of the minutes. If I'm not mistaken Dirk and Haha came in to the game last Thursday with 14 minutes left in the half. You're going to tell me in a single elimination tournament that 2 of the best players should be spectators the first 6 minutes?

RE: UAB / BYU Preview
Tosin starts 2 out of 3 games. Same as Lee and Cokley. Y'all see how that works, right ? 3 guys, 2 spots.. Tosin is the closest player we have to an immovable man in the paint. I wish it weren't so, but Tosin is the only man we have, that gets to play (Madison) that has enough lower body strength and leverage to mostly keep Justin Johnson types from backing in roughshod through the paint.

Baxter starts every game and draws the opponents best scorer under 6'4". Baxter is hands down our best defender.
