We were receiving 4 vote last week, but none this week, even after we beat East crolina.

Who cares? We don't deserve consideration at this point...but, hopefully, we're starting to see signs of a turnaround.
Here's some Rice-related comments from today's D1 chat...
Quote:Comment From Russell
Any thoughts on Rice after a nice series win against ECU this weekend?
Kendall Rogers:
Russell,
They’ve at least got me intrigued a little, which is more than I can say about that after the Houston College Classic. Ricky Salinas looked like a pretty quality arm yesterday, sitting 90-93 with a good changeup, so that gives the Owls are a pretty stable 1-2-3 punch in the weekend rotation. However, this team is still offensively challenged and I’m not sure I see that changing.

Outside of the power 5, what conference has surprised you most this season?
Kendall Rogers:
Chris,
I would say at the top, Conference USA. Florida Atlantic, Rice, Southern Miss and Old Dominion all look like postseason teams right now. Will that change? Highly likely, don’t see more than three teams reaching the postseason for that league. But, it’s still intriguing to talk about right now.

Would like to get your opinion on the absence of any C-USA teams in your top 25. The top 6 teams have all had quality non-conference wins and currently have a conference RPI of #4.
Kendall Rogers:
I talked about Conference USA earlier in the chat, but Florida Atlantic was heavily considered for our Top 25. USM and Old Dominion are off to terrific starts and are nearing consideration stage, while I still have major concerns about Rice.
...of course, no mention of the early Strength of Schedule differential between Rice and everybody else in the conference.

SoS is great when you're winning... We're headed in that direction but still have work to do to convince the pundits

Agreed. RPI is totally meaningless until at least 50% - 60% of the season is complete, and the P-5 programs have played several weeks of conference action.

What is a P-5? The topic is baseball and last I checked there is no cartel in this sport.

The reason I still use P-5 in this context is that, save for some of the Pac-12 programs, the vast majority of the P-5 baseball schools schedule a home-baked, powderpuff OOC schedule; meaning their W-L record and RPI are totally irrelevant and misleading until they go at least several weekends into conference play.

Well Boyd's RPI looks like 38 to me? We at least continue to lead the nation in EFI / ISR Difference [http://www.boydsworld.com/baseball/efi/efi_by_diff.html] which I believe means that we do more with less than any other program in the nation, considering the "undesirability" of Houston, humidity, Rice's small size and academic rigors.....

Huh.. It was #25 on Monday when I posted. I seem to recall the Adjusted W-L was quite a bit closer to even, so Boyd may have had the Minute Maid games as away in his database and then changed them to neutral-site.
