I agree. Contraction is the best solution. I never thought C-USA should have expanded past 12. But, here we are... and no one is going to volunteer to leave for the Sun Belt or MAC.

MTSU, WKU, and FAU were the last programs added, but I don't think any of us would want one of them to leave.

How would splitting suddenly make North Texas better?

I know the thread is asking if the CUSA deal comes in low should it split but think about the halves after the split--financially I don't think either side would be better off than staying together.

The only thing I could see coming into play as far as splits go would be the MWC going for a lot CUSAW and CUSAE and the SBC having conversations. That said, for CUSAE to assimilate the SBC might be as tough a pill to swallow as the money and exposure the CUSAW teams might lose going to the MWC.

The sum of all natural numbers tending to infinity is - 1/12. If we don't break the natural pattern, we can say there have be - 1/12 threads about it.

There will not be any new conferences for the next ten years. My guess is no more changes than two to six universities. Look for P-5 to P-5 and G-5 to P-5, and G-5 to G-5. And Expect some contraction by 2020, because Idaho, Hawaii, New Mexico State, and UMass, not to mention La-Monroe are all on thin Ice!

I'll be the one say it. There is about 10-12 schools that need to either drop athletics altogether or drop down to IAA. This will never happen because of ego's. The most I could see is 2-4 either drop athletics or down to IAA and even then those schools will have to be pushed off the cliff.
