RE: NIT
I was hoping for a 1st round home game as I'm wanting to say the Zips had the 2nd highest RPI & 2nd most wins of any team not in the big dance. They also had a 6-2 record vs. RPI top 100 teams. Oh well it is what it is.

How about Monmouth?

Must have been dozens of Syracuse alumni licking the balls (or padding their pockets) of the Tourney Committee...

How does a -finished in 9th place, .500 conf record, lost 5 of the last 7 and lost in the 1st round of the conf. tourney - team deserve a bid??????????

Who did they beat outside of the MAC schedule? Iona? A mediocre Arkansas team? Sorry. The resume isn't there. You might have a case if they beat Villanova. But they didn't. Dambrot never has tough non conference schedule.

That list is only 22 of the 32 teams, and Central Michigan is on it, too.

Ohio will play in the CBI.

Monmouth should have been left out. You can't lose 3 games to teams with RPI 200+ and still expect to make the tournament.

RE: NIT
The committee seemed to be using some very inconsistent metrics this year. It is almost impossible to tell what they valued. But Tulsa also did not belong in the field by almost every metric. And even if you take both Syr. and Tulsa out, Akron would not be in unless all you value is RPI which appears to be not such a big deal to the committee. What seems most important is record vs. top 50, except when it isn't, otherwise you wouldn't leave out a mid-major with a 3-2 record vs. the top 25. One thing is clear: mid-majors need to beat decent major conference teams. You are not getting in without a couple of those on your resume regardless of your record.

It's a very odd field at the bottom of the at-larges, though.
