If they were that good, they'd be in the real tournament. Like us, they're in the NIT for a reason.

We play well, we can win this game.

Maybe, but we barely made the NIT. If it weren't for the auto-bid, we likely would have been left out.

We can beat BYU, but we have to play a great-to-excellent game (this is essentially a non-statement, but whatever). Otherwise, we'll lose by 15+.

WKU isn't in the NIT and they made us look silly in Birmingham. BYU is better than WKU and this is a home game for them. UAB will need to play the perfect game and hope BYU is having an off night from 3-land.

RE: Byu
We all know we are capable of winning or losing this game. If we dont control the glass, we will lose badly and based on the little I know about BYU we should be able to hold our own on the glass. So consider that mission number 1 eliminated offensive rebounds, minimize second chance points.
Play to your strength, run and run and run some more. As far as preparation goes we have similar advantages and disadvantages. The one advantage we have is that we should be better conditioned. We are an unknown team, just looking at us, you have to scout so many moving parts.
Dirk could be the difference, if he is on it helps us control the tempo better, in fact I believe we need to increase Dirks minutes for this game, he must play defense on the 6'6 BYU guard and make someone guard him. getting some of Baxter minutes keeps both fresh. BYU has to account for players from every area of the floor.
Ha Ha need to take advantage of match ups, shooting threes are okay in the flow of the game but he needs to get down and bang around, he needs to put the ball on the floor and drive to the basket or pull up for the 10-15 ft shot. Cokley and Mehenti must stay out of foul trouble, and control their space and match ups.
The difference for UAB will come down to how UAB handle the BYU home court advantage. Do the team feed off it or do the team like at Legacy get lost and lose focus and try to do to much and get outside of the game plan.
This team is more than able to make it to NY and they are capable of not making it pass BYU but we all know that.

Was 17-1 their record after UAB beat them and prevented them from becoming number 1?

BYU likes to bomb threes, and we know our perimeter defense can be suspect at times, especially on rotations. Also, BYU also has the traditional bigs that tend to give us trouble.

We'll have to play a near perfect game, probably shoot better than 40% on threes at volume, and hope BYU has an off-night shooting.

the objective observer with no connection to either team will likely pick BYU to win...
and that means nothing

Hardly. As I said multiple times, we can win the game, but BYU has certain strengths that match-up unfavorably to our weaknesses.

Everything can't be viewed through green-tinted glasses.

As I understand and would coorelate baseball vernacular to a basketball game, do you really expect us to hold BYU scoreless for us to have a chance to win?.

And I'm about sick and damned tired of "green and gold glasses" being thrown around at blazer fans, like me, who think we can win every game without devine intervention .

You guys are the chicken little non believers. It is amazing to me the number of non-believers there are on here that say they are Blazer fans. That has got to be some sort of tortured existence.

Please define "near perfect game" and I'll hang up and listen.

I think in basketball it'd involve us not missing layups and 3 pointers that we normally make.

Typically "I'll hang up and listen" should be placed at the end of a post

RE: Byu
First of all, UAB didn't barely make the NIT. It's the reward that comes with being the regular-season, conference champion, which UAB won by three games!

The Marriott Center in Provo, Utah, has an elevation of 4,551 feet, or at least the city does. It won't be a factor for BYU, but it certainly will for UAB.

I still like the idea of divine intervention. It could happen.

Amen, Phil. I define it as the difference between fans who grew up in a Mike Davis coached era as opposed to those who grew up in a Gene Bartow coached era.
