LMAO
The NBE $HEOT the bed again. 2 Sweet 16 teams in 3 years... That's some power there.. Just like we've all been saying. This is nothing new for the NBE. That's why it's nothing more than a TRIBUTE BAND for the original.
You were saying?
Congrats to Nova. The NBE now has 1 title to their credlit, like the AAC. It needed it. As you can see by this list of "Champions by conference status" there is a clear line drawn between the accomplishments of the old Big East and the accomplishments of the new Big East.
Like it or not, the Big East is clearly regarded as superior to the AAC, both in terms of on the court performance and brand value.

That's just the way it is.
All I know is that UConn blows away all schools in both conferences.

The "Power" Conferences:
-ACC
-Big Ten
-Big XII
-PAC 12
-SEC
-Big East
That's your "Power" world right there. You don't have to like it, but that's the way it is. In college football, it's the "power 5" in basketball, clearly the Big East has the prestige and the resources to be counted "in" the Power conference ranks.
"Mid-Major" is a basketball term to denote conferences that usually get between 2-and-4 bids to the NCAA Tournament. In rank, the "Mid Majors" this year look like:
1) A10 (GW won the NIT)
2) AAC (4 NCAA bids this year, but nobody advanced out of the 2nd round)
3) MVC (2 NCAA bids, but UNI falters badly)
4) WCC (St. Mary's got snubbed on the NCAA bid)
...CUSA, etc....
So, even if you want to talk about the American as a "High-mid-major" or whatever, the American (IMO) still finishes BEHIND the A10 this year.
But not a "power" conference by any stretch of the definition and not a "Major" either. It is what it is.
Whose definition is this, and where can I find this definition.
Uh... It's my definition, but I think it's pretty much "main-stream." If you have a different definition, please feel free to put it forth.
The resources (ie. money) question is objective...you can figure that one out without debate. But the other measures are more subjective. How do you measure "mid-major" for example? Average number of bids? Progress through the tournament (ie. "Sweet 16" and "Final Four" appearances)? Those things fluctuate over time and people will argue about their value.
I've done a pro forma analysis of NCAA Basketball Fund units earned by 2016-17 conference membership, and recalculated the payouts for next year. The New Big East would be at $1.6 million per school, well ahead of the Pac 12 and SEC, both in the $1.2-1.3 million range. The AAC, by comparison, is just below $1 million per school. The New Big East is definitely a power conference. As for the AAC, it depends where you draw the line. It is clearly close.

Funny that "Somehow" a Non Major like the AAC has more Basketball Titles than most of the other P5-(Not named the ACC) in its entire existence...it is what it is....

It's considered a brand new conference under old branding.
I'll be the first to say I didn't think the one NBE team that made it out of the first week would go on a run. And that late bogus foul that put Nova on the free throw line sure helped the process.
That said, it's always good when the P5 gets shut out. I hope you'll be rooting for UCONN tonight to take the other basketball title.
Tulane may benefit greatly from this as Baker makes a lot of sense to join his Dads staff as HC in waiting.
I don't get this line of thinking at all. So the Big East of '84 and '85 that was made up of GTown, Nova, SJU, Cuse, Seton Hall, UConn, BC, Providence and Pitt is so much different than the current Big East of GTown, Nova, SJU, X, Seton Hall, Butler, Creighton, Providence, Marquette and Depaul? So the title the ACC won last year shouldn't be counted along with the ones they won in the 80's because it's a different league? 5 out of the 9 teams from the 80's make up 5 out of the 10 teams in the Big East now.
Every major conference has changed members since the 80's, it doesn't change the fact that the core schools are all still there. The ACC had 8 teams in the 80's they have 15 now. The B1G had 10 now have 14. The Pac had 10 now at 14. The SEC had 10 now have 14. The Big XII had 8 now have 10 (had 12 at one point). So why aren't any of those conferences not the same?
