MyBB NCAA MBB March Madness Selections
*Three big12 teams in same West bracket. I can hear the kvetching by big12 fans from here.

*Stoney Brook sends MBB team to the dance. With their success in BB and MBB, perhaps they are a suitable role model for Rice ?

RE: NCAA MBB March Madness Selections
Most brackets had Maryland IU and Purdue as a combination of 3 and 4s. Now they are all 5s. The weak SEC gets A&M as a 3 and UK as a 4 instead? Duke gets a 4 seed?

I agree the big 10 and big 12 should've swapped someone to the west. Overall not a very good job by the committee. Syracuse got in on name alone.

Tough matchup against MSU. Another big 10 team with a lower seed than everyone predicted...

FIFY

With Stony Brook and Cal St. Bakersfield making the tournament for the first time, and with Yale ending their long absence, Rice's drought keeps looking worse. William & Mary came close last year, making it to their conference tournament championship game. Army and Northwestern seem to be hopeless.

Army had a path opened for them when Holy Cross took down the #1 seed, but they lost to HC in the semi-finals.

Does Northwestern now count with Bill Carmody making it - albeit at Holy Cross?

RE: NCAA MBB March Madness Selections
I was very harsh on our OOC schedule when it was announced. probably too harsh, as we ended up playing 3 teams that made the dance--Cal, Oregon State and Fresno--in addition to MTSU, the winner of the CUSA tournament.

Moral victories were in short supply as we only played one of those 4 teams to within 10 points.

A losing record in a 1 bid league whose winner is a 15 seed. As Parcells famously noted, we are what our record says we are.

Good news it is would seem to be impossible for an AD at a bigger budget school to hire Rhoades off of his resume to date. So we should get at least one more year, hopefully one in which we dress at least 10 scholarship bodies.

Meanwhile, 4 teams from AAC are going to the tourney: UCONN, Cinci, Temple, and Tulsa.

And UH in the NIT....

Sigh.

At least only two of those are old CUSA teams (from the last iteration), so it isn't like we saw a mass exodus of basketball talent.

Gotta find a silver lining somewhere.

Tulsa should've never been in the tournament. UH and Tulsa had solid years but they were both NIT teams. The only basketball power we lost from the old CUSA has fallen off the map after their cheating coach left (Memphis). Current CUSA was truly pitiful this year but I'm hoping it was a bottom.

UAB & Houston to the NIT.

HBU to the CBI.

A&M-CC, UT-Arlington, Sam Houston State & ULaLa to the CIT.

New Mexico beat Nevada twice during the regular season to earn the 4th seed in the MWC tournament. But the Lobos then lost to the Wolfpack, 64-62, in their first tournament game, finishing with a 17-15 season record.
