Have to think that the Paramount project will add to this once it and surrounding development is finished. Now if we can just take better advantage of the Chinese-owned property along the riverfront on the East side. I don't much care "who", but somebody needs to do SOMETHING there. That will be the icing on the cake.

If the arena, the casino, and a real amphitheater would have been built along the east side of the river. WOW!!!!! They could have also built a really nice hotel. I bet a lot of restaurants would have surrounded those places.

Talk about an entertainment district.

The casino being built where it now sits is a once in a generation mistake.
Belongs downtown and now...
oh well

I agree with Owen. Stupid, stupid, stupid mistake. The current location has zero spin off development opportunities. It's penned in by the river, I-75, Factories and a small neighborhood. Rossford has seen zero business development other than a large open tax check book. If it would have been put in downtown, wow, look at the spin off development opportunities, hotels, restaurants, etc. I could see boats at the docks, heading to the casino for a bit before a Hen's or Walleye game then back to the casino for nightlife. They try to do concerts outside in the parking lot at the current casino. Hell they could have bulldozed the Erie Street Market and put it smack dab in the middle of the warehouse district.

Haven't been there but it doesn't seem that nice.

Casino business is very competitive and I doubt if the downtown location
would really be that much of an asset for the City. Unless it was a great operation that was some destination Hotel/Casino/Convention Center the prime real estate could be put to better use. I wonder how much of the casino's take is reinvested in the area and how many people it pulls in outside of NW Ohio? Anybody that wants to send me money I'll give them a similar rate of return.

But Penn National didn't want other development around the casino. Look at Penn National's other casinos around the country. They are intentionally isolated.

Toledo had almost no say in where the casino was located. That was determined by the geniuses who drafted the casino amendment to the state constitution, Penn National, and of course all of the voters who overwhelmingly voted for such an absurd casino amendment.

(FYI, I'm very pro-casino, but the way Ohio did it was completely wrong for a long list of reasons. The location issue is just one of many.)
