If we want a change and a new coach for '16-17 then it's best for the program for us to get bounced by Tulsa

If we somehow pull off a miracle to win our 1st and 2nd game in the torny it gives JP more negotiation power of a settlement.

If we advance to the final game then I don't see why JP would quit

Wonder how this is working out for you so far

A) I'm not sure why the Mods moved this thread. It's been the most widely discussed thread in the last week

B) what's working out for me is that I CALLED THIS HAPPENING. I think my post was right on que and now we will see JP get an extension.

People don't read before they blast

I simply stated what I predicted weeks ago in the Andy Katz thread. I said there was no reason why the Tigers couldn't win the torny. The field is decent but all beatable. The team is simply bringing my thoughts to reality.

In my OP the message was that IF YOU DID NOT WANT JP AS COACH then we better lose the first game to Tulsa. I said if we make it to the championship game that the admin would not have a leg to stand on to justify firing JP.

All this has come true

Nobody else in the Anti Pastner camp brought this up but I knew we had as good of chance to win the AAC torny as anyone else.

We reached the Finals and now JP will get another year. What I posted was nothing more then reality

The anti Pastner camps only chance to see JP go was to get bounced in the 1st or 2nd game

We are now in the finals and he keeps his job

READ THE LAST SENTENCE OF MY OP. It's pretty clear.

As an Anti Pastner guy I must come to terms with myself that JP just earned a shot to continue as our coach.

I will also go on record now and say I still do not think he's the right coach for Memphis. I do not believe his personality is the right fit for Memphis to ever win big.

If we lose tomorrow then it's still an overall Bad Season yet he will/should get another year to make improvements.

He still can't beat a Top 25 team but he did well against the teams we drew in the AAC

RE: A relevant topic with 93 replies shouldn't go to a smack board
Anyone rooting against our team is despicable, in any case. If someone moved the thread it might be because it's for those who want to root against our own team and can't let us enjoy a victory, dragging people down so that the only priority here is now about trashing a coach even at the expense of the players winning.

You can still write the administration your views with letters or call them. Writing HERE to drag down the message board does zero to influence the administration. Do that by contacting the decision makers directly by letter, email or phone. You could even post how to do that.

But carrying on campaigns to distract people from cheering on the team to victory on game day does not belong here. You can get a lot of people to talk about any garbage topic but that doesn't make it appropriate on a day people should be focusing on their team winning instead of wishing bad luck to their own team.

At least save the campaigns til the season is over. The team is still waging battle against other teams. Wait til they finish their games for this year.

What a drag to find this here after I logged into try to find a game thread. I went to the Tulsa game and will go today too. There were a number of other memphis fans there too. Shaq and our mascot were very popular with some of the local orlando people attending who got pictures taken with them.

You're right the "he can't coach" mantra just went out the window. Any coach that get this team to win at this time of year can obliviously coach. Head coaching is about winning and losing not the pick and roll.

The game today doesn't prove or disprove whether pastner can coach. We have a body of work over 7 years that shows he can beat the teams he's way more talented than and will lose 80% of the time to teams with slightly less, equal, or slightly better talent. The uconn game today doesn't move that needle for me. I want to go back to the NCAA tourney but if we do it is a function of a magnificient draw for us and one good win over uconn

Well everything I said would happen just happened.

Now we will see what making the Finals of the AAC torny means in the eyes of the decision makers.

I find if freaking hilarious that last night SOOO many people were back on the Pastner Train.

Now on our front page 90% are now hoping he's gone.

Fickle Fickle Fickle

At least I stayed true to my personal opinion from November to now

If this were actually true, maybe he is a better recruiter than a strategist. You need both. Some coaches can't recruit and don't have adequate recruiting assistants. Others can recruit but you need both. I don't know if Josh can make good adjustments and preparations or not. You need both components in your staff. I'm not saying he can't. I'm just remarking on the statements above about losing to teams of the same talent if it were true.

I actually don't think Pastner is a good talent evaluator, thus not really a good recruiter. He parlayed Cal's success into some high profile recruits but never managed to put together a roster with all of the right pieces. Good recruiters get the right mix of 4 and 5 star players that fit their system and fill needs.
