RE: March 12 Bracket Update
The guy that made fun of the nerds couldn't be more off. It is shown that the committee pays very close attention to the metrics. In fact, most of the committee has no affiliation with basketball or sports.

This is the whole reason why Temple was left off last year. The committee justified it with the metrics, I disagreed--but the numbers were against them. Unfortunately, as I look at BPI, Temple is again in danger this year.

Cincy and UConn are top 30.

I also don't buy the idea that UConn needed the win against Cincy. UConn played a tough OOC, and gets credit for it in the metrics. You can't go by record. I know Lunardi's game is to emphasize RPI, but he is pretty see-through. He tries to make a case for his school (St Josephs) which actually has horrible numbers. But since St Joe's has had a really good tourney, they are now in. They were in danger.

Look at Monmouth's metrics, they are awful.

RE: March 12 Bracket Update
SDSU losing today did not help this conference's cause when it comes to getting as many bids as possible. I have a sneaking suspicion that they will get in over any at large AAC team.

So I guess Temple fans aren't pulling for us tomorrow, huh?

RE: March 12 Bracket Update
I think the Memphis/UCONN game tomorrow determines whether the AAC is a 2-bid league or a 3-bid league. I think Temple's loss today sent them to the NIT with Tulsa and Houston.

1. What seeding would Memphis (20-14) get? A 12?
2. Does Temple (22-11 in that case) get an at-large?
3. Does UConn (also 22-11 in that case) get one?
4. UC is 22-10 and I think they are definitely in. Probably a 10-seed, possibly a 9 or an 11.

If Memphis beats UCONN they will have an RPI of around 120. On ESPNs bracketology all of the 14 seeds have RPIs under 100. That puts us in the borderline 15 seed range although I could see them moving us to 14 just bc of name recognition.

BTW, how would you like to get a 2 seed and have to play a team with 2 McDonalds All Americans in your first game. LOL.

RE: March 12 Bracket Update
NCAA seems to like to place a big team/program or two in their play-in games to help with TV ratings...but if Memphis wins today...I think Tiger fans will be happy playing anyone in the tourn.

If Memphis wins today, no way in the world they get a 15 seed. A 14 would be possible but even that is worst case. Probably a 13.

Look at the RPI off the current teams on the 13, 14 and 15 lines.

13 seeds
Chatty---53 RPI
UNC Wilmington---47
SFA---70
Stony Brook---64

14 seeds
Hawaii---86
MTSU---76
Fresno St---69
Iona----88

15 seeds
Green Bay----120
UNC Ashville---139
Weber St----108
NMSt(who lost of UC Irvine and wont be in the tourney)----112

Memphis has a current RPI of 136.

Where do we fit?

Probably a 12 seed. Which would cause an instant butthurt comment from the 5 seed.

RE: March 12 Bracket Update
RPI is not the only (or even the primary) guide to how teams are seeded. It's part of the picture, yes, but only a part.

They use RPI as a group mechanism.

But ok.

We had 1 top 50 win.

Our best OOC win was a bad Ohio State on a Neutral court. Our next 2 best OOC wins were La Tech(RPI 117) at home and a 5 point win against Southern(RPI 186) at home.

We have 3 RPI 200+ losses and our OOC SoS was in the 195.

11 of our 19 wins came against RPI 200+ teams. Against everyone else we were 8-11.

Our road record was 2-8.

Our resume wouldve been weaker than every other 14 seed by a long margin. Still they might have snuck us in there as a borderline 14. But we deserved to be a 15 if we had won.
