Be nice if we could just ask Quadri to leave. He's not holding up his end of the bargain. Bring someone else in, give his scholarship to Tobler, whatever.

I agree on Moore. I hate being mean about it because you know the kid WANTS to do a good job and contribute but it just isn't happening. He has the size we need too and he's been here a few years and so it SHOULD be happening but it just isn't. I think Mick needs to have that conversation with him, as difficult as it would be. The other option is bring in a Kmart or Hicks, let them work with him as a last ditch effort and see what they think. They would be able to confirm one way or the other.

I think JJ can contribute. He showed some flashes and late in the season when he got called upon against Houston, he didn't hurt us. Took care of the ball, pushed the pace, made some good passes. Needs to spend time getting his shot going and hope the game slows down a bit, but I think he will be fine. Not sure if I want him to be our starting PG in 2 years, but I would expect Mick to add another one before then. He looks like more of a passing PG and not a scoring PG.

Isn't that the game he airballed a FT? I thought he was consistently awful aside from some nonconference games against garbage teams. I actually feel like there were more times that Quad positively contributed than JJ. Not saying he can't develop into a contributer but if you're going to be a starting PG as a junior you need to be able to play 10-15 minutes off the bench as a freshman. And he's not the type of guy I want as a reserve since he can't score and is a liability on defense.

My biggest issue with Jenifer is that if you're that small you HAVE to be lightning quick. I think he needs to lose some weight and get quicker to be effective for UC. And yeah the comparison's with Downey need to stop, Downey was deadly from 3 which drew defenders tighter which gave him a greater advantage.

Moore just looks mentally overwhelmed while he's on the floor.

Agree. Barring KJ making a QUANTUM leap into the next level, the 2 will be the relative weak link in next year's lineup. KJ isn't bad, has his moments, but I don't see him being a well-rounded starter. Definitely a great role player to have.

I think we've all seen that it is very rare to count on freshmen in a huge way. So, I don't think we should necessarily count on Cumberland in a primary role.

Looking like a SG-by-committee situation. It will be nice to know the other four positions are in very good hands, although the bench will be looking a bit short/unproven.

To the original subject - I am looking at potential POY status for Troy. He will certainly do all he can for us next year. For the first time since SK, we'll be looking at a truly special senior.

Downey was an awful 3 point shooter as a freshman. Didn't shoot many either. He was unbelievably quick and explosive though, and Jenifer is neither.

Jenifer does make nice, crisp passes, seems to see the floor well, and has a good handle. His shot is funky, and he tended to make bad decisions, so when he did get some playing time in the second half of the season he sort of regressed into doing nothing, really, just making the easy pass around the perimeter and fading into the background. He's a freshman with big holes in his game, but he has some talent and his strengths are pretty unique for this program. I didn't expect anything from him this year, but he has a chance to contribute a little bit off the bench next season. But he has to improve dramatically if he's ever to be the starting PG in his career.

Moore if tall and has a nice looking shot. The game seems way too fast for him though, and I'm skeptical that he'll ever really contribute.

I could be wrong on this but I think I remember him mentioning that Tobler would be on scholarship for the rest of this year after the Christmas break.

Correct me if Im wrong, just dont think it got much pubilicity

With Scott coming off his redshirt year and the addition of Brooks, it does seem like we'd have enough practice bodies in the front court...
I see people mentioning Jenifer, I agree he really fell of when adjusting to high level competition, but I'm not going to ask for his head after his freshman year. Part of the problem isn't with him, so much as the offense we run. He doesn't look to pass nearly enough, he takes ill advised shots like Caupain, I think it's systemic and more to do with Mick's offense than anything. That said, it is an ugly form on his jump shot.

You're correct. They can't give him a scholarship in the beginning of the year in case a transfer becomes available but since we didn't have 13 Tobler got a scholarship 2nd semester

That's a great point Billy and I didn't even think about that. Wonder why Mick didn't?

RE: Troy Caupain
Late to this conversation but back to Caupain for a thought. The UCONN game was a history making performance from a fine young man and a great Bearcat. He deserves all the accolades he gets for this one. I think we are all proud of what he did and hopeful for next season.

I believe he will be solid next year, but will he be sensational? All-American? A senior season like SK had? I hope so but I'm doubtful. Troy has had what we thought were breakthrough games before his junior season that did not lead to a 1st team all-conference season this year. Hayden Moore had a record breaking passing performance this past football season against Memphis. That didn't translate into big numbers in succeeding games.

My hope for Troy and the team is that he can be that floor general and scoring leader who carries next year's squad past the first round of the NCAA. Time will tell, but he certainly captured the hearts of basketball fans across the country with Friday's gutsy performance.

I'd say Troy averages about 15 a game next year.

I'd be thrilled if Troy picks up in the NCAA where he left off from the last few games.

I stand corrected regarding 1st team all-conference; congratulations to Troy on that and thanks for that update.
