Thankfully Freeman is a senior is all I have to say, ODU fans better enjoy this run, hard to think you can have a player in the pipeline as special as this guy is...he is a once in every 25 year player...

Trying to be as objective as possible ... I just don't see how he wasn't the POY this season. Hamilton and Kelly had good seasons too, but still ......

RE: WKU / ODU game thread
I personally don't care if one player scores all of our points as long as we win. That's the bottom line.

Someone had to score the other 40ish points, but that's neither here nor there I guess. Our defense didn't do anything I guess.

WKU shot 50% for the game, 42% from three, and only had 4 turnovers. So no, your defense didn't do anything.

WKU came into the game averaging 86 points in the tournament. With 1 minute and 5 seconds left in the game WKU had 70 points (ended up with 77). During the last minute ODU loosened up their defense against the drive to the basket as they didn't want to stop the clock with any potential fouls being called. WKU's final basket was an uncontested layup with ODU standing around letting the guy pass them by. WKU scored 10% of what it took them 39 minutes to score in the last minute of the game against the matador defense being played at that time. Even with that they held WKU to 9 points less than what they had averaged thus far in the tournament. Evidently they did something.
.
When ODU limits points to opponents who shoot 50% it is more about limiting possessions than defense. 03-shhhh

Yes and no.

Blue nose runs a VERY potent offense, and when a player like Nigel Snipes goes off like he did yesterday there's little chance of beating you guys. The only way we did is that Trey Freeman managed to deliver a record-breaking performance. Had he not done so, you win.

But let's also not forget that we (unlike many other teams this season) managed to get the better of your very strong front court. When I saw Justin Johnson go out and pick up his 4th foul intentionally, I realized that you guys had completely given up trying to beat us in the paint -- and were instead going to try to do so from the perimeter. That's defense.

One other point: in order to limit possessions, it means that ODU had to control pace. You guys pushed us hard -- as hard as anyone this season. But we didn't fold.

Until very recently, ODU would not have been able to handle the press you put on us during the last 15 minutes. That we did gives me at least a glimmer of hope that we might just manage to also keep our composure today against Empty Sue.

Go Monarchs!

And your point is? Sounds like smart basketball to me.
