Dishonest Clock Operator at AAC Tournament
Was the clock operator an AAC employee or a UCF employee who TWICE turned the clock off to give UCF more time to catch up? What is the AAC commissioner doing about the cheating?

No...because if he was the "normal" UCF employee that runs the clock at the CFE Arena...any and all screws always go in the opponents favor...as those idiot clock operators on UCF's court even sometimes forget to count UCF BASKETS!

In the last HOME game vs Tulane...I had to yell at the refs (from courtside seat) that the clock was till running some 10 secs AFTER the whistle blew...a time when UCF was losing!

I've been both a scorekeeper and clock operator at many high school games. Sometimes there is a lot going on and it's very hectic. Once in a while you can flat out forget to run the clock after a stoppage. You can also mistakenly give points to the wrong team. Then you try to change it at the same time as watching the game for other things. Your not just keeping track of time, your also keeping track of team fouls, possession, score, etc. Mistakes happen. I'm not saying there aren't dishonest clock operators, but a majority of them are just mistakes in live game action.

I've done it too. Sometimes it can be downright nerve racking. Although at my school the referees whistle is supposed to stop the clock and the ref also starts the clock remotely. I just had to make sure it worked.

Yes, sometimes the people at the scorers table have 10 different things going on at once. In an action packed game it can be tough to keep up. People think the clock operator is just sitting there waiting to screw something up, but a vast majority of the time from personal experience it's just making honest mistakes in a fast paced game. You're keeping track of scoring, timeouts, fouls - team and individual, time, possession, and 2 or 3 other things...all at the same time in a fast paced game sometimes.

Don't get me wrong, I have seen home cooking clock operating, but for me personally, I ran it the same for both sides always, regardless if I had any ties to either team, but I have forgotten to start the clock or stop the clock on several occasions...it happens.

The clock was stopped twice AS THE BALL WAS BEING DRIBBLED DOWNCOURT. How can those be 'mistakes'?

I did not see the game. Maybe there was a clock malfunction. Maybe he accidentally bumped the timer button. These things happen. I didn't see it, I am just saying a lot of the time, clock operators do make errors, but most of them go unnoticed by the average fan. Maybe he did it on purpose too, although that would be rare for someone to do maliciously.

You have obviously never done the job. What the other posters that have operated the clock said is absolutely correct. It is a difficult job. Try volunteering at your local school or even a rec league sometime. Only then will you understand.

That sounds like Kentucky football. They were on probation while my brother was playing there a decade or so ago.

Disagree...as I think any intelligent person can understand...even while not volunteering as clock operator in a rec league.

Also, all college staffs/AAC have a heck of a lot more help with more official scorer tables help than one would have in a rec league/HS.

Mistakes might happen...but with all the TV coverage...instant replay, etc...at least at AAC level...those can be corrected most of the time.
