RE: Ask Aresco: AAC BB Edition
You could read Aresco's comments two ways depending upon your particular bias:

1. We have a contingency plan IF anything happens in the B12--that's prudent, or,
2. The unspoken: UC has already given notice so we know we'll be down to 11; it's between UCONN and BYU for the other slot so we may or may not be down to 10.

His comments were interesting--he could have simply said "no comment" but he chose to open up a little. Stay tuned.

I think that's because the expansion talk coming out of the Big12 is more open and straight forward that any recent example. We are not longer getting the "we are happy at 10" from the Big12. We are not hearing "we are comfortable at 12" like the SEC prior to snagging A&M an Missouri. Just the opposite---we have Boren and Bowlsby making it clear that some movement is under serious consideration and establishing a time line in which a decision will be made.

The whole "We think realignment has stabilized" line from Aresco wont fly in the current environment. The funny thing is virtually every twitter rumor points to S Miss, who doesn't really match the major AAC metrics in anything other than attendance. Small market, extremely low budget, not a ranked USNWR school---not to mention they still are under a 2 year investigation for 7 serious level one NCAA violations in basketball (should be nearing the completion of the investigation soon). Despite this, what little smoke there is on AAC replacements appears to coming wafting up from southern portion of Mississippi. Either we, like Elmer Fudd, are being "vewy vewy qwiet" with regard to the replacement candidates or S Miss is the choice (if we lose just one).
