And Hot Springs didn't "suck"

It was a pretty neat place-- it kind of grew on me after a while

The most shocking part of this is that FAU-FIU have basketball fans.

Just fly into Little Rock (one hour drive).

I would-- the setup was not bad at all. Two courts in the same convention center.

You could go from one game to the next "arena" with a 2-minute walk.

We drove (about 6.5 hours).

03-lmfao very funny. If FAU and FIU had good teams and good support I wouldn't be against the tournament being held in Miami or Ft Lauderdale permanently.

That was my point.

UTEP hosted it due to your tremendous hoops fanbase.

I think the point is FAU and FIU don't have major basketball fan bases. I'm sure the thinking is -- who cares if their several hundred fans (literally) can't go, when you've got thousands at UAB, MT, WKU, Marshall, USM?

He does not, nor ever will, speak for FIU or Panther fans. He is a whiner by nature though, so not surprised by his comments.

Not bad at all. Ask the UAB fans.

I only made the championship game, however.

But I will admit that the majority of our fans that go to the tourney are retired folk.

@OwlFamilyFAU "mainstay" fans things may be exaggerating a bit. Don't mistake passion for showing up. Been at plenty of empty MTSU/UAB gms.

At least for the women's games at FAU ........

Our women's broadcaster counts the fans in the stands, and we most always have more in MT blue.

I was raising the same points you are to him. I don't think that college basketball has enough of a following in S. Florida in general to support the tourney. I know that UAB/MTSU/WKU fans are fairly rabid but could not speak for thier attendance.

Honestly if the tourney was in S. Florida would the faithful mentioned above drive down? Sure we are a great location especially in the early spring, but i just dont think it would work here. Lets not make it inconvenient for people so we can have the highest attendance possible.

As for Ken I do enjoy his broadcast work. Yes he goes a tad over the top in regards to the owls but Id rather have someone with passion for the team then a dead voice.

Maybe one day that will change, who knows ?

I cannot believe FIU, though-- with that huge student population-- cannot get more folks to their hoops games. Their athletics department is sitting on their collective asses and just cashing their paycheck-- no thinking "outside the box". The Golden Dazzlers are worth the price of attendance.

At MT--- I"ve always thought we needed a "Bruce Pearl" type of coach for football (rah-rah guy). And wins, of course.

Heck, Rick Insell, our women's coach, draws the 14th largest attendance in the nation-- he has sort of a cult following. He is a Barnum & Bailey type of guy. Self promotion and winning works.

FAU should promote the hell out of that baseball team (but hard to compete with Spring Training, I guess)

That and the stadium is a 01-rivals hole. As much as I love FAU football I swear if I the powerball, I am getting Baseball a quality stadium. They are without a doubt are most successful program. It just doesnt generate revenue.
