HI Terry, do you know if this is just for the Glass Bowl or other facilities as well?

Plans are not posted on the BX yet, but I'm sure they will be in the next few days. When they are I will definitely be taking a look at them and reporting to you all.

I have a sense that they decided to build the "training table" facility for all athletes at Savage Arena instead of the Glass Bowl, I bet that is the split between the two. I would not be surprised to see this done in two steps, Glass Bowl first of course.

I've heard that they are building a separate entrance to Savage for the basketball teams/staff that will consolidate the men's and women's staff offices, conference rooms, video facilities, etc. all in that one area. Supposedly makes it more in-line with the way other schools' facilities are laid out.

and they didn't think of doing that during the renovation 5 years ago...

Aren't they already consolidated on the third floor? Other schools seem to be doing fine with older facilities. For example: Northern won most of their football titles without an indoor facility and Akron and Kent have dominated basketball with older 60's facilities.

Sound system improvements at the Glass Bowl need to be done and/or the high pitched male announcer needs to get the ax.

I have a hard time believing that this amount of money is for a new entrance with that amount of electrical, pluming and HVAC and fire protection, that would be one heck of an entrance. I am not saying this might not be part of the plan, but with that amount of mechanical worked involved that leads me to believe something like a facility that makes and serves food ie the new "training table" It makes a lot of sense to have at Savage versus the glass bowl since most sports utilize that facility with the exception of football.

RE: Athletic Facilities Renovations Are Out To Bid
Perhaps I don't have the right picture going on in my head but my feeling is that the more a university socially isolates athletes from the general population, the more they sound the death knell on major sports in particular and I'd be on board that bandwagon. Renovations that benefit the social experience for all make sense.

That said, if you are going to have a "training table" or whatever they're going to call it, Savage makes the better sense presuming there is room to do it right. Ultimately and perhaps they should just hold off until they have the fund to do it right, everything from Savage to the Rec center is going to be one extended facility. That's just where I see all this heading. They probably ought to just get on the business of that or at least have the staged design so as to not have to continually "un-do" previous efforts. I just feel Glass Bowl renovations a more important priority for the bigger picture. But again, I don't get a vote. It's probably privately donated and designate money anyhow. If it's University money, then if there's major objection, I would imagine the University has a means for it to be heard.

Don't know any of the specifics, just reporting what I have heard. Don't even really know if it is part of this particular bid. But I got the impression that they want to make it a showcase entrance to give a big first impression about the BB program for recruiting.

Well, you don't always have enough money to do all the things you want at one time, so maybe they did, but just didn't have the funds. Don't know.

Also, remember that if they are using donated money, they have to use it for what the donor specifies. Not saying that is the case here, but if a donor makes a big donation for a specific purpose, that's where the money goes. They can't decide to spend it some other way. Well, they could I guess, but that would be bad for getting future donors to pony up.

We're losing recruits because of the doorway? I'd suggest just walking them in the way the fans get to their seats. That's a pretty nice introduction right there.

Sounds like someone gave a one-liner. I would hope there would be more logistical reason than that to spend a couple million.

Didn't say it was just a new doorway, geesh. I said it was an entrance that combined all the BB staff offices, video rooms, etc. into a new highly visible area right off the entrance. Was told this by someone from the University that is something they plan to do. I also said I didn't know if it was part of this bid or not, and even if it is, I do not know if there may be other things as part of this construction.

Sorry, didn't mean to imply I didn't get that. I guess I just see athletic only expenditures as inefficient.

I do still think that ultimately, they should plan how they would integrate that entire part of campus into a school of... Bio-MED? Health, bio-med and bio-mechanics, sports and physical management and therapy are all growing businesses and a growth area for Toledo. That location is convenient to both the Engineering campus and the athletic facilities.

In my head I have all those buildings and resources connected around the (expanded) track, some sort of atrium/convalescences area around the woodsy area.. Can't quite piece it together in my head but I think the only way to grow athletics is to tie it intrinsically with the needs (not entertainment) of the general student population.

Nah. Pretty sure if we lose recruits it's because we haven't won any championships...doorway could be close second though03-lmfao

I would put kickball errr soccer in the middle of the track and baseball and softball where the computer center is
