Sounds like that might be the case...Considering all the work Coker put into starting that program, UTSA needs to pay up what he is owed.

Interesting comment in the comments section at the bottom of that story.

Did Lynne Hickey give Larry Coker a 5-yr contract extension in 2014 without realizing the school would still have to fulfill the contract payments obligation if Coker ended up being fired? Surely she's not that stupid? 05-ban

Funny thing is the commenter playing the race card is the one who makes a racist assumption. He believes that the baseball team would be better is they got some Latino players. That's like saying the quiz bowl team would be better if they picked up a few Asians.

RE: UTSA not wanting to pay Larry Coker what he is owed?
Quote:UTSA is paying former football coach Larry Coker $650,000 in return for his resignation, according to terms of a settlement document released by the university.

Coker also will be allowed the use of a suite at the Alamodome on game days for the coming UTSA football season.

According to a university document released late Wednesday, the coach will receive his pay in two installments. A lump sum of $550,000 is due in April and another $100,000 “on or before” Oct. 15.
