Sorta tiger related in two ways; big $ to unproven coach but I think that's what we'll be seeing from P6 schools from now on in BB. Also, guaranteed for 5 years.

MLB Guaranteed or NFL Guaranteed...

Josh is the only coach I know that got a GUARANTEED contract.

Steve Alford at UCLA and Travis Ford at Oklahoma State have similar deals I believe.

And Buzz and Marshall. And Archie is rumored to as well. Pointed this out a hundred times, but some refuse to believe anyone else has a contract like this.

RE: STR New coach Greg Gard contract
This played out exactly like Ryan wanted. Bo wanted Gard named his replacement. He had been grooming him for years. (One big difference between him and Pastner.) But the university would not agree to that. They said they would interview Gard, along with others. So Bo pulled his midnight resignation mid-season, where the U wouldn't have any choice but to name Gard the interim. That gave Gard the chance to win the job - which he did. Now, the U has to hire him. Bo was under-achieving with this team. What Gard has done has been remarkable.

Guaranteed contracts are becoming more and more frequent in college athletics. We were not the first and not the only. Our problem was it was based on a lot of upside - and we lost. Most others getting these deals have proven themselves, thus, mitigating a lot of the risk.

Boosters are comfortable with Gard. Probably won't blow up on them - would it?

Buzz has an auto-rollover clause, but it doesn't kick in until the 2017-18 season.

If Buzz decides to leave on his own, he has a $3.5M buy-out in 2015-16. It continues to drop ($1.5M, $900k, $500k, $250k) in the following years.

However, if Buzz is fired by Virginia Tech, he would be owed his salary for the remainder of the contract.

There is no clause in the contract stipulating Williams be paid the difference in salary should he get another job...
