If I was the AD at any of the 8 teams that are allegedly still committed, I'd be telling the organizers that they have to let my team play for free and they have to pay for our flights, hotel rooms, etc. for the whole trip. Why not? You've got 'em over a barrel at this point.

Or at least some drink vouchers and Neil Diamond tickets.

RE: CBI/CIT/Vegas 16 selection thread
The spin from the Vegas Not-16 organizers is
Quote:“We had originally hoped to launch this new tournament with 16 teams, but only if we could secure top-quality programs,” said Brooks Downing, president of bd Global, the tournament organizer. “With highly unusual results in many of the conference tournaments, we were hesitant to just fill out the bracket with ‘available teams.’ So by choosing quality over quantity, we settled on eight teams, many of which were considered for an NIT berth, and all of which have had outstanding seasons they want to celebrate in our event.”

Vegas 16? More like the Vague 16, amirite?
OK, I've wasted entirely too much of my life on this hopeless boondoggle. At least ODU keeps its streak of being on the maiden voyage of doomed third-tier tournaments intact.

This is all so new to us NIU fans, we're excited to be riding shotgun on a plane that's nose diving!!!
Cuz that's what the Vegas 16 seems like it's doing

RE: CBI/CIT/Vegas 16 selection thread
The only good news for the Vegas 16 is that none of the first round games were scheduled to be on CBS Sports Network, although I'm sure the commentators would have loved to have had the weekend to scout the teams that would have advanced to Monday.
The Vegas 16 organizers have to move aggressively to kill off either the CBI or CIT next year, preferably by November or December. Going for the WCC, Mountain West, WAC, Big West, and Big Sky would undercut the CIT. It would help to get some commitments at the conference level, especially with conferences that CBS already has ties to (like the Atlantic 10 and Missouri Valley) - in other words, act like a #BowlGameForBasketball.

RE: CBI/CIT/Vegas 16 selection thread
Yes it's embarrassing they didn't get 16 teams for the Vegas 16, and really embarrassing that they had to scramble for #8, but the field looks about as good as the CIT field, and the CIT was short 6 teams too. Not to mention the CBI taking 3 teams with losing records.
I still think the Vegas 16^K^K^K 8 model has a better future than the CBI/CIT model.

I agree John...Vegas has a better Format than the CIT.
The CBI will only last if the NIT doesn't expand.

I wonder if the CIT will add a few mystery teams to the tournament to get to 32, like pro wrestling does with mystery partners and debuts.
And like pro wrestling, the mystery teams will be huge disappointments that add nothing.

RE: CBI/CIT/Vegas 16 selection thread
Looking at the cbi field the only conference that seemed to prefer it over the CIT was the big sky, American east, mwc, and wcc. Cbi also landed ohio over the CIT but the cit got the other quality Mac schools. There is clearly not enough room for 3 tournaments particularly when p5 teams left out are just not interested in a tier 3 tournament
