Post-season Play?
Ok...I almost choked reading the blade's on-line article about this most recent loss, stating the UT must now wait to see if they will be invited to a post-season tournament.

Now normally, with only 1 Senior leaving, I would love to see the team get more practice time and at least one more game to prep more for next season. But I'm concerned that this team is mentally shot and not sure that there would be a benefit.

After finishing 1-7, is a 17-15 record even good enough for the CIT or CBI tournaments? I don't think it will be. What if it comes down to UT having to buy there way in? Should the athletic department support the women's team getting a possible home WNIT game over buying the men's team a spot in a tournament? I can't imagine we're in good enough financial shape to pay for both?

You'd barely qualify for a mid-range bowl game with that win percentage in football. Still, I agree- I just deflated along with the team at the end and have little desire to
Watch them thrash around anymore this year.

RE: Post-season Play?
At this point there is no way this season can be salvaged by extending it even it that were possible (which I doubt it is). Best to literally cut the losses and let the curtain mercifully be drawn on this season which at times showed promise before it crashed and burned from mid-Feb until the grand finale tonight.

Meanwhile...Green Bay is playing in the Horizon League championship game. They came in as a 4 seed. Yes--that Green Bay.

So they must have improved as their season progressed.

Teams with the following records were invited to play in the CBI and CIT last season: 15-17, 16-14, 17-14, 16-15, 14-14, 17-15, 16-16. So, it is certainly possible.

There's also that new postseason tournament, the one in Las Vegas.

http://www.vegas16.com/?page_id=21#00

Based on this additional tournament, I'm guessing UT will get an invitation to something, though I'm not very good at predicting things. The question is, will the Rockets accept it?

Whether I'm right or wrong about UT getting an invitation, the basketball postseason is getting to be like the bowl season.

RE: Post-season Play?
If I had a vote...I would say take any post-season tournament bid that doesn't cost us any money to "buy" our way in. A "freebie" to give particularly our younger players some more practice and game time might be worth it (heck, maybe even Adway would see more minutes with nothing really on the line). With the way this season crashed, though, I wouldn't spend any UT money to prolong the agony.

Agree. Correct me if I am wrong but I am under the impression that the CTI &, CBI (or whatever they are called) are "pay to play" tournaments and they are only tournaments that might give the Rockets a sniff this year.

Sometimes it is better to just cut your losses and move on and I think that this is one of those times.

Tournament play seems to be a unique situation. I think the more tournament experience the Rockets get, the better. I say accept any invitation that comes along.

I don’t think there’s any such thing as basketball post-season tournament “free lunch” So… what is worth to us as Rocket season ticket holders and the Athletic Department?

I’d speculate bidding for a first round CIT game would start no lower than $5,000 for a road game and $10,000 for a home game. Second, third and fourth Round games likely get exponentially more expensive. Again, I’m just guessing but with other projects on the table (Glass Bowl East Side Renovations) I’d bet we pass this year.

RE: Post-season Play?
With such a young team, any additional experience is like gold.

However, remember last year when Toledo turned down an invite???
I wonder if the same tourney folks would overlook Toledo just for spite?

This may be the case. Seems like this team, like last year, were just disinterested in playing towards the end. I also agree that this team could use additional games/experience.

Going to a tourney across the country somewhere is never gonna be a freebie. Plane fare, hotels for possibly several nights, food for what 25ish people? Bidding to get a home game might actually be cheaper.

I would only be in favor of a post season game if they did a drawing to have a intramural player coach the team.

I think they need the games they should play but only at home easier on the players.
