I'm not aware of any strong feelings among USF fans either for or against southern miss.

I wonder if your reputation will be higher than your post count?

You have to realize this guy is a Tulane poser. Do not take him seriously. He does provide some laughs though.
So, you are telling me that a Tulane poster is arguing that the quality of a school should be judged only by which conference it is in, and not by anything that the program itself has done?

Huh, who would've thunk it.

Lol....He must serve on the CFP selection committee.

Jock always talked about staying at the old Holiday inn, hanging out by the pool and going to the Purple Cow Restaurant and waffle house .

What I will always remember is Clarence F*%king Weatherspoon treating our front court like they were ragdolls.

Well according to this, there is at least one fan that has strong feelings, and he also feels that the majority of USF fans feel the same.

They have only played 4 times, Southern Miss leads 3-1.

Still, that is hardly enough to get two squads to hate one another, even if you throw in some wrangling with the leadership.

What people don't realize is Louisville would come in to Hattiesburg the day before so Denny Crum and M.K. could go fishing the morning before the game. The assistant coaches would coach the walk thru etc. while they were off fishing. Crum and Turk were very good friends.
Thats not exactly right. LOL Denny would come down AHEAD of the team. Turk recommened the bus service that we use to Denny and anything they were within about 300 miles of Hattiesburg he used this bus service and the same driver. A guy name Charlie fulmer. Charlie got denny hooked up with a guy in Jones county that would take him fishing. Denny came down and played around. That old coach that looked like Jerry Van dyke ran the show and when it came game time by george they better be ready lol. That connection is also how Kenny Payne wound up at louisville.

The Jerry Van Dyke looking coach was Coach Jerry Jones. Jones now coaches high school basketball in Southern Indiana. Won a state championship back in 2011 at Jeffersonville. He has probably forgot more than most coaches will ever know about the game.

Denny had great relationships with the coaches he faced. He used to tell stories about Al Mcquire just throwing the balls out while he and Denny went and had beer at some tavern close to the Marquette campus.

College athletics sure have changed and not really for the better.

I want to say Denny and Sonny Smith had a good relationship. Of course, not liking Sonny is like not liking Bobby Cremins.

i got the chance to meet Denny once but never Sonny. He looks like he would be one of the best guys in the world and probably has high entertainment value.

I always wondered why he never got a d1 head job.

Sonny? He was the head coach at East Tennessee State, Auburn and VCU.

Sonny is a great guy with a ton of stories. I think he and M.K. were pretty tight too. But again, I can't imagine anyone disliking Sonny. Not caring for his coaching or not thinking he's the right guy for a job, perhaps, but he's an amiable SOB.

MK went into business with Denny. Some sort of long distance thing years ago.
