Offer Peyton the HC job now
I actually think an academic school is the right kind of fit for him.
Don't wait for him to get other offers , just make the offer and keep the staff and the recruiters we have.
Nothing against Baliff, but victory belongs to the bold.
Maybe Dr K has a relationship with Elway to start the conversation.

Somehow I don't think that we can match ESPN's, Fox's, or NFL Network's opening bid. Now if Papa John's became a Rice football sponsor, maybe .....

RE: Offer Peyton the HC job now
In all honesty I know its a non-starter , but I will say Manning fits the type we need . If we can get it.
Young, strong name ID, would attract the right kind of players ,I think Manning wants to be a coach rather than an announcer ( although he would be great at it) . But his work ethic will be hard to find in others. Will make coaching a challenge for him.
Rice student athletes are that type. With zero coaching experience he wont get offers to be a HC anywhere big time.
Dude might like the challenge

Rice has a head football coach who has led the Owls to 4 bowl games, including 3 in the last 4 seasons!

An alleged doper and sexual assailant? Don't think so. Tommy Kramer would be a better choice.

I miss the papa john's sign in right center at Reckling. For many years, the kids and I would talk we just need a hit to papa and plenty often Austin Davis would deliver......

While TK had a good NFL career, he can't hold a candle to Peyton. And, allegations against Peyton are old and have never been proven. TK, who was a good guy, was an admitted alcoholic who has been arrested for DUI. But this is all whimsy for as others have said, we have a coach who has taken us to unprecedented success, so why in the world would we, as mere fans of an athletically challenged university, even hope for any higher level of play?

As you state, Rice football has achieved a level of consistent success that it may not have reached ever before. And, this winning of late has come in spite of innumerable obstacles, from academic restrictions to a growing gap in revenues.

TK is 61 years old now, has never coached and I assume would not want to start now. He has pretty much stayed out of the news since he retired as a QB in 1990. Maybe in a few years, James Casey will have received enough assistant experience to be a HC. Peyton Manning will need to get some assistant experience before he is ready to be a HC.

I read his net worth is 300 million. He doesn't need money.

Peyton already has 4-5 years as QB/WR Coach, Offensive Co-ordinator, and associate Head Coach, or the equivalent thereof.
