Under Armour year in review
We've now hade the first full year cycle of uniforms from Under Armour. Here's my report card on the change from Adidas:

1. Licensing revenue- "A" - more money for UC than any previous contract and a hot brand for consumer goods.
2. Uniform designs- "B-" - To me, there has been nothing offensive about any of the uniform designs. I prefer more traditional, conservative uniforms for an established top tier brand and these have mostly met that standard. On the other hand I certainly wasn't blown away by either the football or basketball uniforms. The continuation of the stripe horizontally across the front of the black football pants made it look as if players were wearing shorts--at least from my seats in the lower bowl. Basketball uniforms have been OK but nothing noteworthy. I have tried to reserve judgment on the "Cincinnati stripe" and while I find nothing particularly wrong with it, I also doubt that it will become an iconic image from the campus, such as a silhouette of the McMicken or TUC towers might be.
3. Consumer goods- "B+" - Quality to me seems comparable to collegiate licensed merchandise from Nike and Adidas, which is to say pretty good. Prices were definitely higher and above those of the other major brands; I saw coach's caps topping out around $30; a long sleeve button up coach's shirt around $90.

Bottom line: if it's good for our University I'm all in. Thoughts?

The money's great, I am just not a big fan of these uniforms. For football I preferred the Adidas uniforms/branding circa 2011:

For basketball I think these uniforms were a step up from the Adidas product, then again I always thought Adidas did a lousy job with those uniforms. I think UC should adopt the black uniforms they wore this weekend as their regular uniform next season.

Obviously the money's good.

Good insight. Those football unis you shared were definitely bolder and more distinctive. And they always look better when the team is winning!

I also agree that yesterday's black basketball uniforms were stronger than the regular season version. I hope they retain these as well. I kept trying to see what the two white marks were on the back of the jersey at the top. They appeared to be stars--I suppose for the two national championships? If so, I like it but others have used that embellishment before. I think Indiana has stars on theirs for their championships.

The only gripe I have is the over-use of the triangles and all of the white. Don't understand the white helmets and white uniforms for football. Guess CTT is confused and thinks he's still at Auburn.

Triangle-wise, I don't mind the stripe, but I really don't like the horizontal portion on the pants.

I'll say this and I know that some will disagree, but those red uniforms with the triangles and that helmet were hideous. That helmet looked like it was painted by some airbrush guy at a church festival. Maybe next year we can have an aztec warrior or a wizard on our helmets.

I remember reading once that Tubs believes white helmets are optimal in hot weather. Said it keeps players heads cooler. I don't know if that is scientifically proven but I think that is his belief.

Not a fan of the bowl uniforms either. Then again as I mentioned earlier I preferred a prior uniform.

Oh man... i hated those red homecoming jerseys and that awful helmet. It was fun and quirky for one game, but they just kept popping up.

I also gotta agree with all the white. Black on black on black is UC. Its part of our brand! And we've barely seen it these past 3 years.

As for the triangles, i love them. But, i dont really love HOW they have been used. The front of the pants is just weird. Took me a while to get used to them being on the helmets too.

I'd give UA a "B".

Just kept popping up? They were worn in only two games, the home coming game and the bowl game. Plus, you say you hated them yet they were the only jersey and helmet to feature the triangles you say you love. Make up your mind.

That's not what I remember. Those helmets were worn two games in a row. They were worn with the red for homecoming and with the black for the following game. Then for the bowl game also...

That jersey was HIDEOUS.

Yep wore it against UConn and then the following week against UCF. In addition to the bowl game Chris Moore wore it in the Senior Bowl.

Whoa there bud. The jersey did indeed only show up twice. However the helmet was in... four... games. Maybe three. I know some players wore it in their All Star/Senior bowls. And the triangles were all over that red jersey and it was wayyy too much. The triangles that make up the Cincy Stripe are also on the black and white uniforms as well as the helmet. I liked them on those (except the front of the pants). They were on the regular uni's in enough moderation that I liked them.

EDIT: Didnt see that the two above posters basically said exactly what I just said. My bad.

I thought the helmets were awesome, though I agree they one time would have been enough given how iconic the Cpaw is.
