I doubt PJ would bring him back. I've heard that he was pissed that McGarigle left for Illinois.

True, if you count D3. But if one's record isn't great at D3 or D2, they ain't in consideration of D1 or pros.
Cubit D1 HC Record: 51-47, 5-7 = 56-48. For fairness though, one could count out the last one (Illinois) after a last-minute take-over in Ilinni-turmoil that wasn't geared to be any better than .500 anyway, outside a new Urban Meyer or something.
Lovie Smith though will help bring in recruits -- a good choice to get the ball rolling in recruits at least who'd consider Illinois, which could help them gel.
I'M just upset that Cubit isn't HC :(
I sooo wanted to see Fleck vs Cubit!! :(

RE: Looks like we're stuck with the Bro
Cubit wasn't "replaced" by PJ here... Cubit ran out of down years and the separation was necessary. PJ wasn't even on the periphery for replacement at the time. It's the PJ rhetoric once he was hired that paved the Cubit vs Fleck banter... And with justification.
Cubit getting let go at Illinois was obviously due to the fact that Lovie Smith was on board... So Cubit was literally bumped by a better option... Cubit won this go round for sure... Still gets paid and can watch games between rounds of golf in Florida! I'm happy for the guy... He's also poised to be hired by another program...

I would be surprised if Bill doesn't retire now. I am afraid that Lovie Smith will have more success recruiting some of the same kids we have interest in.

He should have a few million in the bank. At his age that should buy a pretty comfortable retirement. He should consider himself very lucky that the cleaning lady story never got out. Hope he enjoys golf in Fla.

Here's my question mark: Why *right now*? Right as Spring Training's about to start, recruits being obtained, to do all this? Lovie's a better choice for the long haul (knock on wood) for them, I agree.
But Illinois has Wes Lunt in his redshirt senior year, good stuff on O -- that's Cubit's specialty. Why cut it now? Where's Lovie going to go? Be an assistant somewhere in the NFL? It's not hiring season in college at all.
IMO, it would have been best to have Cubit there, and to hire Lovie at year's end. Illinois' O is going to reboot after the end of the season anyway. IMO, this just muddies it up. If it's for the long-run, what's the Benefit of bringing him in Right Now?

Not gonna put the details on here. But if you have connections with coaches that have been there a while ask about it. You might be very shocked. Not bitter at all, but there is more to the story than coaching. Let's leave it at that. I used to be a huge supporter of his.

Well that all depends. I have known some lawyers that are so careless that they'd sight you until you pointed their stupid error out to them. But the lawyer I forwarded the screenshots to is not stupid, so yes, you're exonerated
