Rice-UCF game 2
No thread I guess already?

No score in B2. Fox on the mound for the Owls.

Fox gets out of a jam in the third to keep it scoreless. Owls mounting a bit of a rally in the bottom of the third (2 on, 1 out). Warren seems to be our hottest hitter at the moment.

Our starting pitching has been awesome so far this series. Of course, it has to be given our offense.

Second quality outing by Blake. One bad inning when everyone hit the ball hard (even the outs). Offense is just horrid at this point....and the one threat we posed all game (in the 3rd) we run ourselves out of the inning. Runners on the corners with 2 outs and DiCaprio up, how can you get caught stealing 2B? I mean we are one of the absolute worst baserunning teams in D1. It would be one thing if Chandler had a high percentage success rate....but he has an woeful success rate. Just don't get that call.

Second consecutive inning we get the leadoff man on. We finally get our first BB (Staab) of the series (after 16 innings) to lead off the 8th inning, but Teykl strikes out, failing to move up the runner. Our situation hitting remains non-existant. UCF brings in their closer to face Myers. Another strikeout. This offense makes last year's lineup appear to resemble murderers row.

It appeared Ryan was trying to get into a rundown to allow the run to score. Unfortunately he slipped as he put on the brakes and was tagged out. Even with the slip, the run nearly scored. With our current offense, it was worth a try with 2 outs.

Our hitting remains nonexistent*

What did Wunderlich do in the final play? Gametracker showed the pinch runner Jeffries on for Lewis and then the game ended. It never showed the final out.

Grounded it to the SS, he threw to 3rd where the player was clearly off the bag but the umpire called him out.

Force out at 3rd on ground ball to shortstop in the hole. JP said 3rd baseman was not on the bag.

Based on how the season has gone so far, I'm not at all surprised that that's how it ended.

I couldn't tell if the 3rd baseman was off the bag, but the slide beat the throw. Horrible call, just like DiCaprio being called out at first when he easily beat the throw. The double steal wasn't a bad call, but Chandler was too close to 2nd so the SS didn't have to go very far to tag him.

Through 11 games: Warren, Proctor, Wunderlich and Lewis are the only regulars hitting over .250. Our starting catcher is hitting .000 (0 for 19 with zero walks). Our opponents have more home runs than us and over twice as many doubles and twice as many steals than we have.

Oh yeah, we have 3 times as many errors as our opponents. Yeesh.

If the thirdbase ump got the call right last night, it would have made things very interesting. Win Sunday and you win the weekend and the week. Not bad.
