RE: Countdown to Bruiser Firing!
Quote:Dear Drexel Basketball Season Ticket Holder:
I am writing to let you know that we met with James “Bruiser” Flint today to inform him that Drexel will take the men's basketball program in a different direction. As a result, Drexel Athletics has parted ways with Coach Flint effective immediately. We also met with members of the team today and informed them of this decision.
We are very grateful for Bruiser’s 15 years of committed service. He has led our program with enthusiasm and pride, and his teams have represented Drexel honorably. He has been an outstanding teacher and role model for his players and a passionate advocate for Drexel's student-athletes. In addition to five postseason National Invitational Tournament appearances, Bruiser has been recognized with numerous individual coaching honors, and his players have received frequent academic recognition. Men's basketball consistently posted a graduation success rate above 90 percent.
Bruiser also played an important role in Drexel's successful transition to the Colonial Athletic Association during one of the most fluid and challenging periods in college athletics. Our basketball program is well positioned for the future and he deserves credit for that.
We have retained Atlanta-based Parker Executive Search to manage a national search for a new coach, beginning immediately. I believe that we have the resources, commitment, and infrastructure in place to hire an exceptional and winning coach, and that our department and University is a very desirable place to work.
I appreciate your commitment and support of the athletics program and will keep you updated on the progress.
Sincerely,
Eric Zillmer

Yay for change! Did coach Connors and the rest of staff get fired too?

Come on, "yay for change"? Really? Yes, the program needs a new direction, but give a little respect to the people who lost their jobs today and who have dedicated themselves to bettering college athletes and the university they represent. Bru and co. were upstanding, classy ambassadors for DU. Give them some respect.

Totally agree bdragon. It is the right move but there is certainly thanks that need to be shared because of what else he did for Drexel off the court and for his players that represented us over the years.

RE: Countdown to Bruiser Firing!
When you take a job as a coach in any sport at any level, you take that job with the assumption that you're either going to move on to another job or eventually get fired if things don't go well. Getting fired is just part of the territory.
I thank Bruiser, Connors, and the entire staff for their services over the years, and I with them all nothing but the best in finding employment elsewhere.

RE: Countdown to Bruiser Firing!
If you know me/my posts you would know I am a big fan of Bruiser and defended him when people use to bash him. I have total respect for Bruiser but I am excited about the future. I apologize if my happiness seemed too soon.

So Bruiser attended an event last week as a speaker, and according to this article, it would be attended by "Former Massachusetts Coach, Bruiser Flint". Sounds like the past 15 years of Bruiser's life have been completely removed from history.

RE: Countdown to Bruiser Firing!
This is a month or two old now, but Bru interview discussing todays' HS players, the increasing use of search firms to hire new coaches (the guy conducting the interview is the poster from the SJU boards I mentioned in the Spiker thread) and his future plans.
Skip ahead to around the 49 minute mark for the search firm and what the future holds. Some language, so may be best for home viewing or earphones.

RE: Countdown to Bruiser Firing!
Pretty damning in reference to our AD :)
Wish the interviewer had re-shot the questions with the audio levels set right...
Or brought a sound guy with him...

RE: Countdown to Bruiser Firing!
Well maybe if Bruiser let Marcus Thornton keep his hair as is then we would have won the CAA. Just saying that they both deserved to be let go. Change is good :)
