RE: Rice MBB vs. ODB
The last 2 games were indicative of how teams will play Rice in the CUSA tournament. Someone other than Marcus Evans has to step to make sure the opposition cannot only key on one player. With the exception of one or two games, the lack of rebounding has also been a killer. I thought Charlotte was better coached than ODU, but the Monarchs really have a great player in Trey Freeman, who made the Owls lives miserable on Saturday.
For the conference tournament, the Owls have to figure out how to stop Braxton Ogbueze, Joseph Uchebo (center) and Scott Curran in their first game or it will be one and done in next weekend. The good news is that Charlotte looks like they are only 7 deep as well so Rice should be able to stay with them as far as intensity for an entire 40 minutes

I think Charlotte is a team we can definitely beat if we play better perimeter defense. I'd say sell out on the 3s and let Drone and MLE battle it out down low. Uchebo can't play more than 30 minutes from what I've seen (he has bad knees). Charlotte hit 17 3s when we were at their place and 11 last Thursday I believe. That's crazy and we will lose if we allow them another 10+.
Also Evans is going to get his points regardless of whether they key in on him it seems. But we need other people to hit their open shots (and we had plenty). If Egor gets hot again, MLE has a couple big games or Cashaw becomes more aggressive with his shot then I think we can play with anyone except UAB. Rebounding was troubling but it has been all year and I think the differential in the ODU game was a freak occurrence. You actually have to try not to rebound to get that kind of differential more than once in a season.
