Nice job as always Dan... wish we could get Danny to come back and work out with GC and teach him when to go strong to the hole and when to rely on his finesse. Mick, don't you need one more coach?

The influence of guys like Danny Fortson and Kenyon Martin can be huge on Gary Clark. I think he will be a 15-10 guy before he leaves. Whether that will be next year or his senior year, I don't know. But I do believe he needs some serious one-on-one big man coaching to reach his potential here.

And sadly, that coaching will NOT come from the current staff.

^^^I've actually been very happy with the job this staff has done coaching up Corey the past two years!

That said is the current staff producing lottery pick 5s, no. But lets not pretend they are bums either. A lot of being a center comes from pure physical skill (and the move away from the pure center at both the College and NBA levels is a whole other set of variables).

Agree that this crew is definitely "not bums" and that Corey has come a long way... BUT with that said I think that having a Danny Fortson or a Kenyon Martin as a big man coach or even just an off season "mentor" or "consultant" would be a huge step for this program and IMO a nice recruiting asset for UC. If Kenyon or Danny can be good teachers and communicators there is absolutely no substitute for the "I've been there and here's how you get there" they could provide

Exactly. Those guys were dominant college basketball players at the 4 and 5 positions and had long NBA careers. Most coaches were either perimeter players or never played at the highest level. There's a reason why LeBron James spent time with Hakeem Olajuwon working on his post moves. Short guys who played point guard can't teach all that stuff.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Gary Clark and Octavius Ellis both have played a lot better after Kenyon practiced with the team a month ago or so. It was no coincidence. Kenyon practiced with the team and the game after the practice was that last UConn game where Clark played perhaps his best all around game of his career.
