I think most people are but the majority of coaches avoid these situations over the course of their careers... And he was pretty close with a player like Jelan Kendrick. Luckily, Jelan showed his ass before the season even made it to real games...

Jelan Kendrick was a smart kid albeit emotionally challenged. This is not the same at all.

And it takes more than a head coach to orchestrate this. It takes a village.

That's the worst of the worst and unfortunately the roots go down all the way to middle school.

I mean you are just trading one embarrassment for another.

I thank Pastner for subjecting the UofM to these embarrassments (not anywhere near the full list):

Michigan St.
Virginia
Oklahoma St.
Tennessee
VCU
Georgetown
Wichita St.
Baylor

Incredibly stupid post. Do you thank people for not breaking the law? No, because that's what you are supposed to do. It's creepy how far some posters have fallen in order to support this idiot.

GA is one of the worst kind of fans. Placing coach before the program makes no sense.

We hung 53 points on them in the first half.....ah, wait, Nevermind this is another thread about that offseason sport.

Yeah bassetball. People hate coach. Blablahblah. [Insert graph about losing to good teams and beating bad teams]

Little known that Memphis was where Frazier wanted to be. Pastner wanted him, but refused to play "the game"-much as he did with Skal.
Would he have made it here? Who knows?
It's moot, I suppose. A hall of fame coach swooped in and performed his magic.
So, maybe Brown would have gotten him anyway.
Hard to say.

I can't fault Larry Brown for this. Sorry, fellers. He may be what y'all call sleazy and I may be too much all-about-the-kids, but I think Brown genuinely wanted to get this talented player on his feet, while helping SMU. Yea, he underestimated the risk. It was supposed to be a win win.
Was it worth the risk in hindsight? Guess not. Was Rose worth the risk in hindsight?

digressing.......

Another idiotic post touting a halftime victory. Congrats. You are the new Stammers.

RE: I Thank Pastner For Keeping Memphis Out Of This Sort Of Embarassment
College and HS sports is such a nasty business.

My Father (a HS dropout) was promised, an apartment, a car and financial support to come back to school and finish his last two years of HS. It would have been the late 50s. This was from a coach in the Tennessee sports hall of fame and one of the winningest HS coaches in the nation. He didn't do it, was already married to my Mom.

One of my cousins was offered a car, if he would change HS teams in the late 70s. The deal was they would move the family into an apartment for his senior year and he would get a car. Played Div I college basketball

His little brother was WAY better (TN HS all star team), I'm not sure if he was ever offered anything, need to ask him. That would have been the early mid 90s. I'm not so sure he "made" all of his grades. Played Div I college basketball

Both my step Father and step Uncle were offered college scholarships, they were so poor they couldn't accept them. This would have been in the early 60s.

If this was being offered to HS players, I can only imagine what goes on at the elite college level.

Many would trade anything for wins. Anything it takes to get them.

And everybody in sight got fired in that Dallas story, except Brown.
