I don't know, USF did get beat by double digits by Western Kentucky in their bowl game.

You committed the same sin, looking at the front of the jersey and not the results of the team.

WKU was a solid team, but they did get beat by Indiana so I won't give them too much credit.

And IU would have beaten OSU if not for multiple in game injuries. They had to put some 4th string WR in at QB and they still almost won. IU lost in 4 OTs to Michigan. IU lost to 3 BIG teams that won double digit games, by a single score. Could have won all 3.

I think I need to go back and see what happened here. I only asked who the kid the Bengals drafted covered when UC played Houston.

Andrew Billings in Rd 4. Was in many mocks as 1st rounder.

Yep, apparently several early mocks had him going to the Bengals in R1 and he was part of their internal discussions starting in R2. Getting him in R4 reportedly resulted in the loudest positive reaction in their war room of the draft. Westerman is the other Bengals' pick that seems to universal praise from a "value" standpoint. Of course, every position matters, but I especially like that they keep re-fortifying both lines with picks like those. From USA Today's expert:

Quote:I wasn’t crazy about the Bengals’ second day, but grabbing DL Andrew Billings in the fourth and OG Christian Westerman in the 5th were two of the best value picks of the draft. I had a late first/early second on Billings, and a mid-late second on Westerman. Steals, and both guys who can start right away.

Bengals draft looks very solid and smart to me again this year especially considering we had no extra picks and were picking pretty far back each round. PFF agrees:

Quote:Cincinnati Bengals, A-
1 (24) William Jackson III, CB, Houston
2 (55) Tyler Boyd, WR, Pittsburgh
3 (87) Nick Vigil, ILB, Utah State
4 (122) Andrew Billings, DT, Baylor
5 (161) Christian Westerman, G, Arizona State
6 (199) Cody Core, WR, Ole Miss
7 (245) Clayton Fejedelem, S, Illinois

Day 1: Our No. 2-ranked cornerback, Jackson is a steal for the Bengals. His size, speed, change-of-direction and on-field production could make him the best pure cornerback in this class in a few years. Jackson shows excellent ball skills, he can play in any scheme, and perhaps most intriguing is that there is still room for him to improve from a technique standpoint.

Day 2: Boyd ranked No. 10 in the class with a +20.2 receiving grade, although he’ll disappear at times before breaking out some nifty-looking routes. Vigil was productive at Utah State, finishing with 136 run stops the last two years, but he struggles to defeat blocks.

Day 3: Billings is an early-round talent that fell through the cracks, but he has great potential after two strong years of grading. Just let him work downhill and destroy blockers. Westerman is one of the best pass-protecting guards in the class, and he adds great depth along the offensive line. Core was overlooked at Ole Miss, but his size and speed make him intriguing.

from cbssports.com:

Quote:5 teams that flat-out crushed it putting together their 2016 NFL Draft class
By Dane Brugler | NFLDraftScout.com Senior Analyst
April 30, 2016 7:41 pm ET

Only time will reveal the teams who drafted the best from the 2016 NFL Draft, but the instant reactions point to these five teams as franchises who did the best in terms of securing value and acquiring talent.

Cincinnati Bengals

1 (24) CB William Jackson, Houston
2 (55) WR Tyler Boyd, Pittsburgh
3 (87) ILB Nick Vigil, Utah State
4 (122) DT Andrew Billings, Baylor
5 (161) OG Christian Westerman, Arizona State
6 (199) WR Cody Core, Mississippi
7 (245) SS Clayton Fejedelem, Illinois
Some of the best trades are the ones that aren't made. And that could be said of the Bengals ' 2016 draft class as they did not make a single move over the three days, staying at their original pick in each of the seven rounds and taking the best player on the board. And it worked out really well. The draft started shakily when the wide receiver options in the first round were wiped out, leaving Jackson for the Bengals at No. 24 overall. But Cincinnati waited until the second where they added Boyd, who will be an instant contributor, probably out of the slot. In the third, fourth and fifth rounds, the Bengals added players who project as future starters, but they will also push the current starters for playing time in 2016. In the final rounds, Core and Fejedelem both project as possible backups with talent to stick on a roster....

Hopefully this FINALLY starts the beginning of the end for Peko. He is absolutely worthless. It baffles me how they can continue to trot him out there every game. Oh, I forgot, he's a good "locker room guy". 03-banghead

Actually I think in fairness Peko had best year he has had in years last year. Guys has been a big time leader....the caped playoff incident notwithstanding.

Now ...love the Billing pick

In fact really like how the whole draft went for bengals

Vigil kid just looks like a football player ...those clips of him playing running back show his speed and running ability. Kid is a tackling machine and with bengals line especially with geno and billings...this is a smart player who might just surprise fans in next 2 years.

Based upon what I've read from Lap and Hobson, it sounds like the Bengals really liked Doctson, Coleman and Fuller - possibly in that order. Treadwell was the last to go and it sounds like they'd have still gone with WJIII even if Treadwell was still there. I think it probably came down to WJIII or Jack in R1 after their top 3 WRs were gone.

great pre-draft piece on him: Bob Sturm's draft profile series: Is Baylor DT Andrew Billings too good for Cowboys' line plan?

The article includes a few .gifs showing him in action; I liked this one best showing he can move too:

And if you've ever wondered what it would like if the strongest high schooler ever played football you'll want to click here. He stacks up pancakes and throws kids out of his way like they're ragdolls.

But if you wanna see some domination check out his senior year hs highlights here. He stacks up pancakes and throws kids out of his way like they're ragdolls.

Damn. Dude doesn't just take a good angle and make the tackle. He tracks him down from behind. That's a large man running down a RB at full speed.

Interesting listening to lap and hoard on podcast on bengals.com.

Would have taken Doctson, Coleman or Fuller if there at 24

Treadwell a round 2a on their board. (Top 1/3 of Rd 2)

Jackson midway in their Rd 1 board

Boyd was their #5 wr. Thomas of osu and sheppard the other Rd 2 grades.

Vigil and Billings had round 2 grades

Cody Cole a round 4 grade right behind Chris Moore who bengals liked. See both as similar to Marvin jones.

I think they've already signed 15-20 undrafted players.

I'm glad that the Bengals didn't trade up. They really didn't have the ammunition to do so this year and I think they got great value Friday and Saturday.

Next year's a different story since they should get quite a bit of help with compensatory picks.
