Our entire campus is downtown. Yesterday's disadvantage is today's boon

Is that a serious question?

Maybe they'll give the students vouchers for free mouse ears.

I wish, Disney is awesome.

What Disney is doing at Disney Springs is incredible. Star Wars is going to be amazing.

Yeah...Disney has certainly hit another sweet spot...as they recently initiated surged peak pricing for 1 day tickets which has raised Magic Kingdom prices at Disney World to a record high of $124 per day (remains at $105 for "off-peak times and $114 during normal times).

The huge Star Wars expansion (entire project will be done over next 2 years) at Disney's "slowest park" Hollywood Studios, will be a huge boon to that park...which has already seen a huge increase in record attendance since Star Wars was released (Star Wars parade everyday, old Star Wars attractions and more Star War characters), which will pay off for generations to come.

Meanwhile, with almost every price increase, Annual Pass (and partial season) Sales continue to soar...as they offer benefits that help as the parks continue to be busier each year (i.e. Reserved Fast Passes, Restaurant Reservation, some with free parking-$17, etc...).

New Disney Hotel resort expansions like the Polynesian Bungalows are bringing in $2,000-$4,000 prices each and every night. (Let alone all those $$$$ that type of traveler brings with it).

DisneyWorld is just printing $$$...but they are able to still provide probably the best guest resort/park experience for tourists...hence why it remains so popular today.

Orlando area...obviously home to Disney World Resorts and scores of other attractions/resorts/conventions, etc...set a visitor record of close to 65 Million in 2015...while Florida became the first state in the country to ever have over 100 Million out-of-state and International visitors (actual total was 105 Million).

Thank you to all that visit Orlando (and FL)!

The real genius of Disney springs is the shopping. Prime outlets, just down the road off Disney property attracts millions per year and is one of the most profitable shopping centers per square foot in the country. Disney is going to duplicate that and keep more people on property......to spend more money. I wish it was that easy for the little guy to make money like that lol.

That was one of the best things about living in Orlando, being able to go to the parks at anytime. I do miss it.

Good point...especially in regards to internships/experience...something many can not find if they go to school in a small college town.

Historically, most of the jobs use to be found when big city companies would basically only recruit college grads at their Univ...while now, many of those same big city companies want to "groom their own", which means hiring and/or offering internships while students are still in school...which is now a huge factor in post-graduate hiring...as those companies know them best and have seen those former students in action.

Schools like USF, UCF and growing schools like Ga State that are located in huge metro areas...the partnership opportunity is growing each and every day (One of UCF's tag's is "Americas Leading Partnership University"), plus, UCF locating their new School of Medicine directly in the middle of the new Medical City at Lake Nona...or UCF's Hospitality partnership which lead to their beautiful Rosen School of Hospitality being located right in the middle of the tourist corridor (right near Convention Center, next door to Rosen Shingle Creek and just 1-2 miles away from tens of thousands of hotel rooms, restaurants, shopping and entertainment areas, etc..), more and more students each and every year are becoming much more experienced in 'real life/work' experience vs just "book/academic" experience...which is now paying off for them and those companies that hire them.

We stay at the cabins. It's great for our kids since we live in the city. Halloween is great because everyone dresses up the carts.

Georgia State's big problems

#1 - Ga. Tech is literally down the road. That is hard to compete when the town/area already has a successful D-1 program with much more history.

#2 - Waited too long to get to D-1. It is really hard to move up the food chain if conference realignment has stopped or slowed.

UCF seems like a fun place. I hate 17 year old me for not considering it as an option for college.

Many universities are now pushing for urban/downtown campuses.

With the massive donation by Vink, USF is already in the process of building a medical campus in downtown Tampa.
http://www.tbo.com/news/education/downto...-20150813/
http://www.tbo.com/news/education/new-me...-20151208/

It will be located near Tampa General Hospital, All Children’s Hospital and the Florida Orthopedic Institute, and join the already existing USF CAMLS center. Having the planned USF designated/painted water taxis shuttling between some of the facilities will be a nice touch

They did that intentionally to deny both USF and UCF opportunities at law schools. If you create lawyers from those schools you immediately create a political class that will be running against the UF/FSU mafia that wants to keep us from rising. See the bull**** about "preeminent universities" bill they passed a couple of years to deny USF additional funding that they'd earned. The Florida polytechnic scam was planned along the same lines as had USF finished the job we would be leaving FSU in the rear-view mirror academically
