WBB RPI and at large talk
Sadly there is no at large talk for a very good Ohio team. Losing to UB twice was probably the nail in coffin. The bobcats did beat Charlie creams number 1 mid major FGCU though!!

44 OU
64 BSU (x2)
75 CMU (1)
85 EMU (1)
95 Toledo (1)
120 Akron (x2)
129 UB (Lx2)
--------
Noteworthy OU opponent RPI's
LOSS 172 Illinois
WIN 61 FGCU
WIN 39 Indiana
LOSS 80 Vanderbilt
LOSS 23 Duquense
WIN 62 MTSU

Ohio is 8-2 vs the top 100.

RE: WBB RPI and at large talk
I don't find it surprising that OU isn't in at-large talks. Akron's men team has an RPI of 37 and has no hope for an at-large. Also, more relevant BG WBB team finished 30-5, 17-1 in MAC play, in 2014 and was still left out of the tournament.

RPI is not really a factor in selection ultimately. It can be used (or not) by individual committee members to throw a team into the big pile of teams to be considered, but is no longer used beyond that.

More important is how good are the teams you beat and where did you beat them, and how many bad losses do you have to non-tourney quality teams?

Then, how does that record match up to the other teams under consideration? I think the committee chairmen have said they don't use computer rankings once the elimination of teams in the final pool under consideration begins.

RE: WBB RPI and at large talk
No surprise because the MAC has been well known as a one bid league for sometime now for both the men and the women; however, I guess some folks just don't know what "a one bid league" actually means, because it seems like every year about this time there is usually a long thread discussing the prospects of (particularly) the men's side getting an at large bid even though the reality is that "it just ain't ever going to happen" again-----way too make big TV $$$$ at stake these days on the men's side to waste at-large bids on any mid-majors when there are plenty of "deserving" power conference teams out there with a .500 record and a ton of "good conference losses" to go with their out-of-conference cream puff scheduled wins.

At least with all the parity (i.e., = all uniformly "average" teams) on the men's side of the MAC this year, perhaps we will be spared that usual annual thread about that possibility of at large bid for the men this year that never manages to materialize.

(sighs)

Teams get bids. Conferences do not. There is no conspiracy.

Technically if your league is the toughest of the bunch, the conference can/will earn you bids. It happens lots of times when teams are poor against the top 50 and 100, but they happen to be above .500 in that good league so they get the invite.

I bet there will be a team from a power league that is something like 2-7 vs. the top 50 and 5-13 vs. the top 100 and will get in at 19-14.

RE: WBB RPI and at large talk
It's about quality OOC wins.

The top teams in the MAC just do not win the games they need to win.

I dunno about women's but the men's have a putrid track record vs. Top 25 and Top 50.

MAC
Top 25 record: 0-9
Top 50 record: 6-18

AAC
Top 25 record: 6-24
Top 50 record: 13-25

The AAC has 19 Top 50 wins and the MAC has only 6.

MAC does not have many schools under 200 RPI relative to its peers.

Summit-1
Big East-1
SEC-1
PAC-1
ACC-1
A10-2
CAA-2
MAC-2
B1G-2
MWC-2
AAC-3
MVC-4
WCC-4

The programs in the MAC that are solid .500 have to step up the scheduling and defeat stronger OOC schools. That is all there is to it.

RE: WBB RPI and at large talk
Lionardi has Ohio state as last 4 out and they are 3-9 vs top 100 with bad losses to UT Alrington, and Memphis.... What a joke. If the buckeyes made the big10 semi's and beat MSU today I would give them a bubble spot. Not before.

05-bump ... The team that got in via conference for the men was Michigan at a stellar 57 RPI... 4-12 vs top 100!!!!!

OU's women were listed in the group of the first four out, on ESPNs Tournament Selection Show, so at least they were in the conversation for an at-large bid.

Yes but unfortunately the key word in "last four out" is OUT. Now if they had been in the group of "last four in" that would have been newsworthy.

Conference does matter in the NCAA selection process despite what some may think.
