I was glad to see that the great Chambers for PSU bowed out in the first round. He should be in the HOF.

Davidson just tossed the Bonnies back onto the bubble.

SWAC sending their regular season champ to the NIT.

The Bonnies are back on the bubble? They were projected as one of the last 4 in on most projections I've seen. They are very much on the bubble imo.

Penn State made the second round, thank you very much. Little victories.

Even more nervous now. Fresno State stole a bid by winning the MWC. SDSU (RPI 32, KP 37) is going to get an at-large bid, unless the committee just wants to punish them for letting someone else win the MWC tournament.

I don't think SDSU is safe but they are more likely to get a bid than not.

Whatever. You should have kept DeChellis.

#1 seed Hawaii holds off #3 Long Beach State 64-60 and wins the Big West auto bid.

SDSU fell to 36/42 afterward. Far better/balanced numbers than Temple and Wichita State, imo, and it's better to fall in a tournament final than before it, but I don't know how you reward the MWC with two bids this season. Last night's final was a contest between that conference's only top-100 RPI teams. SDSU stands alone in the top 100 in KP. I think *that* is going to hurt them when they line up with the others.

Where Michigan stands to that may not look great, but I wonder how 4-11 looks to 1-3; that Michigan played fifteen games against RPI top-50 teams to SDSU's four, and technically winning a better percentage than the Aztecs.

Quote:The Bonnies are back on the bubble? They were projected as one of the last 4 in on most projections I've seen. They are very much on the bubble imo.

RPI still loves them at 30. That number would be better if they didn't have Davidson as a bad loss and among the A10's semifinal contestants (the other three likely locks). Best them, and any loss thereafter, to VCU or St. Joe's...probably helps their cause more than further hurting it. Put the A10 up against the field in KenPom, though, and you wonder how they get more than two bids (and both of those are in the final today). Heck, with who's on the committee (a Big East guy) and who's not, don't be surprised if the A10, AAC, and Missouri Valley are hosed additional bids.

The numbers don't lie, but "user error" in the room and other politics? Absolutely. I'd bet that with both hands.

Additionally, if Wichita is overlooked, what becomes of the metrics? RPI doesn't like them, but it's a fickle calculation, and one that the committee will blatantly disregard. KenPom's a bit more stable, but it loves the Shockers. RPI, Pom, and politics...a good contest we'll get this evening.

The mid majors will be screwed. It is the new trend over the last two brackets.

I'm usually all for the little guy, but, they've gotten their fair share of gift bids over the years. Last year was nasty and decisively the opposite, but were some of these guys overlooked this year (Wichita, Temple, SMC, SDSU, Monmouth, Valpo, Cincy, Bonnie, and even Dayton or G-dubs), it's not like the major alternatives are that egregious were the committee to go that route again.

The only team that will smell of blatant politics and television collusion will be LSU, imo. And to even think that, looking at the numbers now, is laughable to fathom.

Honestly, outside the AQ's, nobody's earned a ****ed thing this season. Prove me wrong, at-large class. If I am, I'll enjoy the entire thing, even revel in being proven wrong. It's been a great, interesting season given the new rules. This tournament could be a complete toss-up, even with the chaos in the single-bid tournaments.

It's so funny- I've seen some bracketology with Syracuse the last team in. So they would be rooting big time for UConn today to get into the tourney....

RE: And so, the madness has begun!
Conference top-seeds that didn't win the AQ:

AAC: Temple
ASun: North Florida
A10: Dayton
Big East: Villanova
Big Ten: Indiana
Big South: High Point
CAA: Hofstra
CUSA: UAB
Horizon: Valparaiso
MAAC: Monmouth
MAC: Akron
MVC: Wichita State
MWC: San Diego State
NEC: Wagner
OVC: Belmont
Patriot: Bucknell
Summit: IPFW
SWAC: Texas Southern
WAC: NMSU
WCC: St. Mary's

Honestly, only Villanova and Indiana are the sure things, with Dayton after that. That's at least seventeen NIT participants so far. Could be eighteen if UALR doesn't win the Belt. I suspect it won't be less than fourteen after the bracket's determined. Even getting a spot in the NIT is going to be a stretch for some of these schools way out on the bubble. There isn't much room.

Hats off to Stony and Hawaii, though...I thought for sure those guys would be up with the others.
