Even more nervous now. Fresno State stole a bid by winning the MWC. SDSU (RPI 32, KP 37) is going to get an at-large bid, unless the committee just wants to punish them for letting someone else win the MWC tournament.
SDSU fell to 36/42 afterward. Far better/balanced numbers than Temple and Wichita State, imo, and it's better to fall in a tournament final than before it, but I don't know how you reward the MWC with two bids this season. Last night's final was a contest between that conference's only top-100 RPI teams. SDSU stands alone in the top 100 in KP. I think *that* is going to hurt them when they line up with the others.
Where Michigan stands to that may not look great, but I wonder how 4-11 looks to 1-3; that Michigan played fifteen games against RPI top-50 teams to SDSU's four, and technically winning a better percentage than the Aztecs.
Quote:The Bonnies are back on the bubble? They were projected as one of the last 4 in on most projections I've seen. They are very much on the bubble imo.
RPI still loves them at 30. That number would be better if they didn't have Davidson as a bad loss and among the A10's semifinal contestants (the other three likely locks). Best them, and any loss thereafter, to VCU or St. Joe's...probably helps their cause more than further hurting it. Put the A10 up against the field in KenPom, though, and you wonder how they get more than two bids (and both of those are in the final today). Heck, with who's on the committee (a Big East guy) and who's not, don't be surprised if the A10, AAC, and Missouri Valley are hosed additional bids.
The numbers don't lie, but "user error" in the room and other politics? Absolutely. I'd bet that with both hands.
Additionally, if Wichita is overlooked, what becomes of the metrics? RPI doesn't like them, but it's a fickle calculation, and one that the committee will blatantly disregard. KenPom's a bit more stable, but it loves the Shockers. RPI, Pom, and politics...a good contest we'll get this evening.
