UC basketball emotional support thread
A pragmatic view of what situation we are in.

The bad:
  • We lost this evening making winning Sunday a must win to keep our at large hopes alive. Yes, I said alive.
  • We have two of our starters out for an unknown amount of time.
  • Our worst loss of the season, in terms of point difference.
  • The results of this game result in a third matchup with UCONN this season more likely. (they wont want to let the third chance go to waste)

The good:
  • We are #51 in Live RPI as of 5 minutes from when I posted this.
  • Assuming that Cobb and Thomas return soon, the comittee is supposed to keep into consideration that they were hurt during this game possibly minimizing the damage of this loss.
  • We have an opportunity to get a top 25 RPI win that is lacking on our resume.
  • Other computer models like Kenpom still like us. (this one was for you Mark)

RE: UC basketball emotional support thread
Hey, I always want our guys in the NCAA Tournament but I think all these statistics are putting lipstick on a pig right now. Tonight was just about as ugly a game as we've seen all year; players that we thought were emerging, suddenly disappeared. This team is so lacking in offensive ability, emotional intensity and mental focus that it's easy to imagine them going down in the first game of the conference tournament. For what it's worth, I think the "sixth man" helps them upset SMU Sunday. I'm no longer sure that will be enough.

The committee should take Cobb and Thomas' injuries into account, but only if they come back and the team plays better with them. If they miss the rest of the games or are ineffective when they come back, the committee wis likely to rate us as we are with those two injured.

I doubt it matters in the grand scheme of things. It's not technically a "bad loss" and there's nothing to suggest they lost that game because of injuries (no track record). Most teams are going to miss a guy due to injury from time to time during the season. Only way it becomes a big issue if you miss a guy for a sustained period of time, he comes back and they're a significantly better basketball team.

Cincinnati's issue is that they lack a huge resume-defining victory. They've got a handful of nice wins, but nothing to really to hang their hat on. A win Sunday would change that.

A loss to Houston is considered a bad loss, same goes for Memphis.

I didn't even watch the game. I saw it coming a mile away and saved myself the angst. Highly recommended.

For Emotional Support on Senior Night let's give them all a Participation Trophy. That will make them feel good. Cobb and Shaq seemed to be having a good time on the bench.

Rath I'm taking your advice and won't watch the SMU game. If they win great. But I'm done thinking this team has turned corners. It's a square room with padded walls.

Least enjoyable UC team I can remember. Hey Uconn game was great...but overall Its not fun to watch this team. Tulsa...temple...temple...Houston. Mick should be embarrassed by this product he turned out.

Probably a good thing I don't watch Xavier games or I might get addicted to watching a program with a coach who can recruit, coach an offense, etc.

First time I can recall ever deliberately not watching a game, although, I did stay up past CA's 9:30 bed time.

RE: UC basketball emotional support thread
Watched 20 minutes of the debate to witness the first time a ***** was referenced in presidential debate history. Switched over to see us down 13 in the first half. Should have stayed watching the debate circus. Would've been more entertaining. really worried for UC athletics right now. This has been a slow death for basketball and football in terms of slowly sucking the life out of fans, fans who would be supporting UC with their pocketbooks. Would almost be easier if Mick and Tommy T lost a bunch of games so change would have to take place and we could maybe get coaches in here who know how to recruit and coach and win. As it stands, a crap conference mediocrity is keeping employed around and slowly killing fan interest and passion.

I watched, using the motivation of being a Nielsen family. I watched because for a rare moment I had control of the 65" tv. I watched, but then I didn't, because I had my cell phone on me to surf the internet so I wouldn't get too invested in the catastrophe unfolding before me.

But even that wasn't enough. I turned game off with over 10 minutes to go. So much for having the good tv to myself.
