I can't name many places worse than Miami (not Beach), New Orleans, Vegas and Hollywood once you get past the novelty of the tourist traps that people enjoy going to for a weekend.

Well, as for Vegas, there's LOTS more to do without ever gambling:

If you've been to Vegas numerous times (I have), there's only so many times you can do that stuff. Your ability to see/experience all of that would be accelerated by living there, not to mention many things you covered could be covered in one trip.

And living in Vegas is different than just an occasional weekend fling. You also forgot Area Fi--I mean that place that was fictionally seen in the movie Independence Day.

Velodrome construction completion in jeopardy. Couldn't do planned testing and it looks like the first racing on the track will be at the Olympics. Dangerous.

For the love of God move the games, not because of the Zika virus but because of their incompetence and the dirty water. They put Mexico to shame with their diseased water.

The IOC bribes have been paid so the games will go on. The question is will anyone trust the IOC after the Charlie Foxtrot?

I watched some footage on the national news earlier this week that showed aerial views of raw sewage plumes stretching out from the city into the surrounding bay of Rio. Nothing like doing a triathlon or a rowing event and getting infectious lesions on your skin. Welcome to Hell indeed!

Some Australians were burglarized in the Olympic Village.

Also:

The security firm in charge of security for the Games didn't hire enough people and thus was fired in lieu of the police taking over security. IIRC without doing the easy out of a Google search, the Brazilian police is basically another wing of their military and so effectively the military will be policing these games.

Olympic diving pool temporarily closed due to green water and complaints of "itchy eyes." But, but, everything is fine. Suuurrrrrre it is.

Quote:The green diving pool at the Rio Olympics was finally shut down on Friday morning. After a few days of organizers insisting that everything is fine, they have closed the diving pool after divers have complained of having itchy eyes due to the excess use of chemicals to combat the green coloring and the smell of the pool.

We'll have to wait and see if there are any delays or scheduling shifts due to pool water quality issues, but British diver Tom Daley is hopeful that they haven't been putting themselves at risk diving into the pool the last few days.
And So It Begins (Future Pool Operations Health/Safety Negligence Claims)

All things considered (and I could be speaking too soon), these games could be going a lot worse. They'll be a financial disaster for Brazil in the long run and a health concern for athletes and visitors, but honestly I was going into the games thinking that a stadium would fall apart or a huge security breach might happen.

Read that in another article. Thugs posed as fake cops no less. Glad no one was shot or hurt. I'll bet some of these athletes can't wait to bolt out of Dodge. IOC please take note for future locations consideration.

You'd rather have the Olympic Park bombed in Atlanta? Or have terrorists ruin the games for athletes in Munich? The Rio games aren't going nearly as bad as everyone thought.
