Just a shame that he never got to call an NCAA tournament game.

Mark,

As you signed-off for the last time you sounded more than just a little bit like Ernie Harwell.

Thank you Mark!

Loved hearing that Rrrrrrrockets at the end. Mark made it a great era to be a Rocket fan.

It will still be great to be Rocket fan, but it won't be the same.

Can anyone share or have any memory of his final words before signing off last night

One thing he talked about was that he always tried to make sure that the listener knew the score, the time left, and who had the ball. Did a great job of that. Announcing a game on radio is so much more challenging than one on TV for that very reason.

Of course he did. He was announcing UT games for twenty some years. Oh, wait....

Thank you. I'm 23 years old now and he's the only voice on the radio I could ever remember Rocket or otherwise. Gonna miss him. Hearing that made me smiling

RE: Mark Beier Retires
Mark's predecessor was Jerry Keil (pronounced 'kile'). For anyone who never heard him, or for a taste of nostalgia, you might enjoy this interview. Although the audio quality isn't the greatest in the video, this is the voice many of us grew up listening to:

RE: Mark Beier Retires
Interesting facts about Jerry. At one time he was still on the air. He and Sharon live in The Villages, FL. I understand that he was doing a Saturday am Sports Talk show. Heard that from one of his "color guys". He was very good but IMHO Mark Beier was just a little better ( go back to 1968 listening to UT). We have been lucky to have had 45+ years of great radio broadcast teams at UT.
