RE: Steve Forbes first season a wild success
I'm telling you guys - the way to keep Forbes here longer might be through the family. If you have a chance to speak with any of them, tell THEM how much we love having them here. His wife especially will have a large amount of input on how long they turn down other offers after they start coming in. If the family puts down roots, it will take some pretty big offers to pull them up. It may just buy us a couple of extra years.

Poster, I've heard of the "Bible Belt" but I don't know where "Savior - land" is?

That ain't gonna go over well in Savior-land.

Back when C-of-C joined the SoCon ('98?)(from the now-defunct Trans-America Conference -- which morphed into our 'beloved' ASun), they painted themselves as the "saviors" of the SoCon. (Their words, not mine.)

It's kinda been a joke since then - especially since they only won the conference basketball tournament once (and I think that may have been the first year they were in) - and that was, I think, before the "savior" comment was made. It's been more prominently thrown back in their face on the Chattanooga board over the years - but it's just one of those things that has never died.

As just one of too many examples to mention:

"Savior Division"

....which followed on the heels of Davidson's great run in The Dance. It was poking fun (yet again) at Charleston by insinuating that Davidson was the new "Savior" of the conference.

And it's been like a soap opera down there with coaches - one left stressed out mid season, next one got fired for talking too harshly to players, etc. They had a very disappointing season last year and not much better this year. Nice arena, good support and a good area (Charleston) but I agree their results have been dismal for a while.

I don't wish them any more bad luck but they were pretty haughty (and so was baby Duke, e. g. Davidson) when they were in the SoCon.

RE: Steve Forbes first season a wild success
I have to admit I am getting tired of hearing how ETSU won 14 conference games, 2nd most ever in the SoCon even the announcers tonight jumped on that bandwagon. Great, nice.. very misleading. When we were in the SoCon before we were only playing 14 or 16 games, we are playing 18 now. We went 14-4. Bartow went 15-1.
Robinson went 12-2 his last year, LeForce went 11-3 and 12-2 the next two years. Forget wins,, what is the winning percentage.

Totally agree. Totally; and it bugs me, too.

On the other hand.........very impressive that this is Chatt's all-time new number of wins in a season. Yes, there is *some* inflation there, but not nearly as much as with what ETSU's reps are trying to portray.

I *KNEW* this would happen. I almost just wrote it out in my post as a prediction. There's nothing wrong with seeing the glass 90% full and 10% empty at the same time. It's just a more complete and nuanced view of reality. But more globally......ETSU just historically does this. I used to complain all the time back when John Cathey was SID about the golf scores - they used to say what place ETSU placed in ("ETSU finished fourth in the Beach Shores Classic"), without a mention of how many teams were even in the field, or even who won the thing! Fortunately it's normally not that bad these days, although with track results it almost is.

SID stands for "Sports Information Director", not "Sports Propaganda Director".

It's certainly ok to toot one's own horn just a bit, but CONTEXT is important!!

Just have to accept that. Records are being broken left and right across the sports world with the benefit of more games. College football plays 12 games plus bowl/playoffs which count toward official stats which didn't previously. Baseball plays 120 games, etc, etc

You'll be chasing windmills for years trying to match apples with apples when it comes to games played.

lmao someone is butt hurt, Sorry but that is stupid thing to hype and makes us sound bush league, like Bartow and his I win 20 games a year mantra. We had a good season, Promote that don't try and squeeze more out of it, like hanging a banner saying we were ranked 10th in the nation (glad to see that come down). I am happy for the team but damn act like we have been there before, because we have.
so if in 5 years the SoCon has 12 teams and is playing 22 conference games a year and Coach Shay? (assuming Forbes has moved on)
goes 16-6 That is going to be the best SoCon team ETSU has ever fielded because they won more games? Really.

Our winning percentage was notably better then it was last year at what, 16-14. Going to two road games and two home games, all four of them coming out losses, also discouraging.

Whether or not this year is a sign of better things to come or just getting lucky and making better use of existing talent that will soon be gone, who knows. Either way, I'll take what we got this year as opposed to last year, starting out excellent for the first month or so, then crashing and burning in spectacular fashion.

And more importantly, I was only able to attend one game this year, the Morehead State game, but for the first time since I believe 2013, or 2012, I got the experience of watching ETSU win a basketball game live and in person.
