Long term replacement
While hoping for the best Marc broke the same bone which Bill Walton broke, which ended his career. Which direction should Griz take if the bone does not heal as it should.

RE: Long term replacement
I had always heard that Walton's diet in those days had a lot to do with why the bones never healed properly.

I would hang on to ZBo; his contract is a bargain (esp when compared to the contracts we'll see in the upcoming seasons) and he can still produce consistently from an offensive standpoint. Heck, he might be the only alpha on the team and until we have others, we gotta keep him on the team.

Keep the nickname. The Grizzlies have one of the best logos in Pro sports. Being able to use the name the Sounds is cool a few times a year, but I like the Griz name.

I also thought Showboats would be a good nickname for an NBA franchise in Memphis. But only if we had an NFL team named the Grizzlies.

When their contracts expire after next season they will be 36 years old

RE: Long term replacement
I'd like to see a different style team. Find a guy who can play above the rim, protect the rim, and surround him with shooters/drivers. Conceptually, the Warriors with Dwight Howard.

You can do some of this with Marc, but he's as Earth Bound as Z-Bo. Long term, I'd be looking to build around a Howard-type center and focus energies and efforts on acquiring talent on the wings.

RE: Long term replacement
I highly doubt Gasol will not be able to return from injury. Even if he comes back a shell of his former self, he is still ours for 4 more seasons. Nobody is going to want that contract. Pretty hard to rebuild with that salary on the books.

I think Zbo and Tony remain Grizzlies until retirement under team friendly contracts. I assume Mike wants to stay in Memphis as well. I'm fine with giving him a big contract as long as we can keep/find a solid backup PG.

Unless Gasol's injury is career ending, we will see a team built around Mike and Marc. I'm not that worried about holding on to the core 4, provided the older guys are willing to take the hometown discount. The key is not surrounding Mike and Marc with the same revolving door of 35+ year old players. Develop some young talent for goodness sake.

That's the way the NBA is going.

Big, athletic PGs, shooters at the 2, 3, & 4. A 4 that can handle & defend the post. And a 7' center that can run & jump (dunk & block)

Once Grit N Grind is over, I would like to go that route.

As long as ZBo remains productive and is on a great contract the Grizz will keep him. His game is such that he can play for a few more years.

So you think the Grizz should resign a 36 year old Zbo?

If it's a good contract, yes. Why do you think they shouldn't?

Because he would be 36 years old. I would rather sign a younger player that could give the same production but actually have a future on the team. The only way I would resign Zbo is if the team is a legit contender and he is willing to be the backup pf

At that point he would probably be a bench player. His contract right now is a bargain and it'll be lower when the Grizz resign him. It's a no brainer IMO
