The Golden Flashes closed out their regular season by winning nine straight dual meets. Their No. 15 ranking in the final NWCA Coaches Poll is among the highest in program history. The milestone ranking comes with a 15-3 dual meet record, matching the 2006-07 team's mark. The Golden Flashes have not had a better winning percentage since the 1981-82 season. Kent State's seven conference victories are tied for the most in program history. The only MAC setback came in December against No. 6 Missouri.

March Madness, indeed!

RE: MAC Wrestling Tournament
Quarter final round is over with okay results for Kent. Andrusky said one of his 10 wrestlers was hurt and would just have to gut it out. He wouldn't say who but it probably was McGuire who has not wrestled for a while and lost a decision in the first round. Other results included losers Tutolo, James, Baxter and Vinas(he did win the 8 seed/9 seed match to get us 1 point). Winners were Miller, DePalma, Conel, Buckwater and Nye. The latter two won by pin and earned us 2 bonus points. The standings after 1 round are:

Missouri 50.5
CMU 38
Kent 30
Northern Iowa 29
Ohio 25

Some of the guys now have to scramble to get NCAA bids.

RE: MAC Wrestling Tournament
The big KSU stories are Mack losing - there's no way he's 100% - and Nye's pin of the #2 seed. Also, Buckwalter's win by pin with 3 seconds left in his match.

DePalma with a HUGE upset over 3rd ranked Mayes of Missouri. He got a reversal with a second left. The McGuire upset doesn't hurt as much now.

Jesus. Talk about being snake bit. Miller was ruled out of the tournament per the concussion protocol. Athlete safety is always number one. Obviously, this has huge ramifications on the team race, as well as Miller not becoming a 4 time MAC champ. Hopefully he's ok.

Conel, Nye and Buckwater all lost their semi matches also. Do you think Miller can get a wild card finishing sixth?

He will get a wild card. If not, Coach A may blow a gasket. Hopefully, he will get medically cleared. If the injury and protocol had taken place outside of the MAC tournament, there's no way he would have been kept from wrestling.

McGuire pinned his opponent in the losers bracket. Tutolo and Vinas are officially out losing close matches.

Miller is like the kid in Peanuts with the black cloud always hovering above. Loses a point in a NCAA match costing him a second place finish. Seems to always get hurt even going back to high school. I know he is a high risk wrestler but the Force sure isn't with him.

Day 1 is over. McGuire, DePalma and Miller (assuming he gets the wild card) have qualified. Buckwater needs to win his next match. Conel one of his next two. James his next two. Still some hope for NCAAs.

RE: MAC Wrestling Tournament
Baxter has a disappointing day at 0-2. The zenith of his time at KSU was his freshman year. Too bad he was unable to build upon his first year.

RE: MAC Wrestling Tournament
Millers extra 7 points today would still only have us in fourth (admitedly a much closer 4th). However, Missouri and CMU would still be safely ahead of us. Tutolo and Baxter not winning a match was disappointing.

RE: MAC Wrestling Tournament
Miller's bad luck started his senior year in high school when he was brutally screwed over in his state finals match. (Jeff Jordan was in the other corner so you knew how that was gonna go.)

He'd have been a two-time state champion. Talk about a poster boy for adversity.

RE: MAC Wrestling Tournament
Although 5th is not where I thought we would be, there's still a lot of wrestling to be had tomorrow.

On the high school front, our recruits are doing really well. Jack Harris won his first state title today to go along with his 3 other placements. He finishes 5/2/2/1.

Dylan Barreiro won his 2nd consecutive New England title. He's also an upper weight.

The biggest win was turned in by Seth Beard. Until today, he was a 3 time Ohio place winner, finishing as high as 2nd. Today he took the crown after defeating a 3 time state champ in the semis. Beard is the first wrestler in Ohio history to prevent a three-time champion from winning a fourth title. Wow! He's projected at 125 for us.

Collin Adkins finished 6th for the second consecutive year.

Our 2 PA recruits don't have states until March 10-12.

When your opponent's coach is surprised by the call, you know you were screwed. Maybe the Big Apple is his stage and he can bring us another NC.

RE: MAC Wrestling Tournament
Lambert, Beard was simply fantastic this weekend. He was named the MVP of the tournament for slaying a 3x champ in the semis and then a returning champ in the finals. While KSU has made its hay turning non-blue chip recruits into absolute studs, this appears to be a primetime find for Andrassy and Co.

From his Twitter feed, he seems to be all about KSU.
