don't think I've ever seen a writer blow up his own article in the first sentence before.

I got the through the first "Sentence' and just had to wonder.. is he trying to write a fictional novel or an article? I couldn't get past that.

Amazing what is passed off a journalism these days. "The Republicans are just like Joel Osteen's church" - un'effin believable!! I've not once -ever-watched him on the TV............not ever, even for 5 minutes.........

Bet this journalist is a whiny metrosexual............

RE: Huff Post thinks Osteen's church is mother church for the GOP
I've never heard that Houston has four downtowns. We have some business districts outside of downtown to be sure but I've never referred to any of them (Greenway Plaza, the Medical Center and is the fourth the Galleria area or perhaps the Energy Corridor?) as a downtown.

Obviously, Lakewood is not in the suburbs, but in some respects it is like a suburban church with an emphasis on youth and outreach programs. At least it's like some of the non-denominational churches in my community. Just a lot bigger. I wouldn't be surprised either if many of its anglo families do come from the suburbs??

It's also in the heart of Ted Cruz country so of course Trump isn't going to do well with its constituents. I wonder if Second Baptist is more of a 'motherlode for the GOP' than Lakewood anyway.

I don't know that the main church 4 miles from downtown Houston inside the Loop in Greenway Plaza (one of Houston's 4 "downtown" areas-the technical term is "major activity center") is particularly suburban.
Osteen is not fundamentalist. He is something entirely different.
Lakewood is unusual in that it has always been a very diverse church.

I don't know why the liberal media feel such urge to make themselves look like idiots by writing about things they know nothing about.

1) Downtown, 2) Texas Medical Center, 3) Greenway Plaza, 4) Uptown/Galleria. Haven't seen any numbers in a while, but downtown had about 250k employees, TMC about 100k, Galleria about 75k and Greenway 40-50k. The Galleria is the 16th largest "central business district" in the country by office space. Downtown is behind only NY and Chicago.

Lakewood is in the old Rockets arena, the Summit, surrounded by office buildings and is no more than 5 miles as the crow flies from downtown.

Lakewood used to be in the northeast part of town. Its 30,000 members come from everywhere.

There's some that are pretty good. David Jeremiah is one.

I have been meaning to dive into some of his teachings, I like the stuff I have seen and he is highly respected by several others I respect a lot.

Chuck Missler is a really good prophecy teacher also, and Bill Salus has some incredibly detailed and accurate work. Perry Stone is amazing. Stone can fit a remarkable amount of info into a single teaching. He might move too fast for some. lol

I have found some really good bible teachers online too. Total unknowns with small ministries that are amazing bible teachers. Some are long time missionaries that speak multiple languages. Many don't ask for a dime and simply teach the scripture Word for Word free to all on youtube and other places.

There are some really good teachers out there the Lord has gifted us with. They are in a sea of false teachers and thieves though.

To those who are unaware and/or searching for Him:
This is another example of why its so vital to study the scriptures DEEPLY for yourself. It will help you to discern what teachers to listen to and study from, and which to avoid. ALWAYS confirm what you are being taught in the Scriptures, never just take peoples word on doctrine. Even the best teachers.

1 Thess 5:21
PROVE ALL THINGS; hold fast that which is good.

I don't know much about the man or his overall beliefs but I have seen his show a few times and haven't found it to be offensive.

He's not a Biblical teacher per se. He is more of a motivational speaker than anything else. He hardly uses the Bible and when he does he does it to prove his point. At that time people think he's a bonafide Christian preacher. Like some here do with Bible verses that they use wrongly.

An example is when Jesus said, "I don't condemn you either…" but fail to finish the sentence Jesus said afterward, like…"go and SIN no more".

If you want to really know what the Bible teaches Ravi Zacharia is also a tremendous speaker. He uses big words so it might be hard for some people to understand his message. Check him out in Youtube. You'll learn a lot.

This is it. He does seem more like a motivational speaker than a preacher.

If you aren't a serious Christian who studies the Bible much, he probably seems like a really great guy. He is a very nice and genuine sounding man.

And to be fair, there are a lot worse people out there than him, but he is a PERFECT example of the problems within the church today. That's why so many who understand jump on him when his name is mentioned. He is the first guy most think of who preach the prosperity theology.

He needs to drop the ministry and become a motivational speaker and author, or radically alter his ministry and begin teaching the Gospel of Christ instead. He rides the fence, not really preaching the true Gospel while having a "mega" church. It misleads a lot of people who never really come to know God or his ways and laws, though they think they do.

And he is making quite a lot of money.

That is exactly what he is right now.

A "religious" based motivational and prosperity speaker.

But he leads a mega-church.

Wasn't it his wife that threw a temper tantrum on a Continental flight one time and got thrown off while shouting down flight attendants and crew?
