This ESPN talking heads sounds like Ohio State talking. OSU is lobbing to stay the only P5 school in Ohio while other Big 10 states have to share with other the P5 status. If I were Michigan, Iowa, Indiana, Pennsylivana I would lobby in UC favor just to give OSU some recruiting competition once in a while.

It's BS because you don't like what you see?
No its BS because the poll uses a very tight subset of the population, which is likely voters.
"Public Policy Polling surveyed 1,012 register
ed voters, including 464 likely Republican
primary voters and 388 likely Democratic
primary voters, on February 24
thand 25th.
The margin of error is +/-3.1% for the ove
rall sample, +/-4.6% fo
r the Republicans and
+/-5.0% for the Democrats. 80% of particip
ants, selected through a list based sample,
responded via the phone, while 20% of re
spondents who did not have landlines
conducted the survey over
the internet through an
opt-in internet panel. "
For the poll to have any accuracy they would need to identify how the question was asked. Was it blind where no options were given? Was it list order? When listing the order did they randomize the selection or go in a preset order?
Also, any poll that has allowances of + or - of 4-5% is totally unreliable. I was a former PoliSci major years ago and this is just a crap.
With that said, I wouldnt say its far off, but if anyone thinks UCF is ahead of Miami in this state... well youre an idiot. I might concede after the last few years that UCF has gained numbers on USF, but neither of us is more popular than the big 3.
* last point, notice it is landline heavy which gives an advantage to schools that have a higher concentration of older alumni. If they were able to poll cell phones, I gurantee USF and UCF would be higher than what they polled either of us.
Why would you be an idiot if you thought UCF was ahead of Miami in popularity in the state? The last time Miami won a NC was 15 years ago, it's also a super exclusive private school with a combined undergrad enrollment of 10k. Their stadium is about an hour away from campus. It wouldn't surprise me if USF was 4th and Miami was 5th popular. If enrollment trends continue it'll be that way. USF has approx 49k students given an output of alumni over years, it'd be a very real possibility that USF overtake Miami in popularity.

I will counter with the State of FL license plate numbers for 2015:
2015 Rankings
Division 1 Schools:
Florida - 96,643
Florida State - 69,995
Miami - 24,854
Florida A&M - 16,540
South Florida - 14,591
Central Florida - 14,352
Bethune Cookman - 5,092
Florida International - 2,645
Florida Atlantic - 2,276
North Florida - 1,675
Florida Gulf Coast - 1,636
Stetson - 1,471
The numbers are pretty consistent from year to year, and I think provide a fair and proportional representation of the size of college fanbases relative to their peers.
USF and UCF fanbases are about equal in size. They are well ahead of FIU and FAU, but are well behind Florida or Florida State.

This would be a pretty good argument, except UCF only offers an academic logo license plate, and no athletics logo. This has been a sticking point with Hitt for years, but that's supposed to change with Danny White. Look for those numbers to go up by a lot next year.

Have you seen their halftime show... their band is badass! Love them. Weve played them several times and even though the games are never competitive, the band is well worth it. Love me some FAMU!
(theyre also a much older university... USF and UCF are 60-70 years younger)

Id point to tv viewership and value to conference. They arent desired by the ACC and other conferences because they arent watched. I also saw numbers a few years ago for apparel sales... they were up there. Ill see if I can find them again.
In a few years, we both may catch up, but the numbes Ive seen just dont support this poll.... and I know PPP. They do some crap work. When I was on Jebs first governors campaign we wouldnt use them because of their loose methodology. Theyve gotten better, but this poll was a "fun" poll and they didnt really have proper controls in place. Its really piss poor data collection for all the reasons I stated above.

Whats also pretty cool for UCF especially is the booming UCF fan base by age...as younger fans (18-45) are almost equal to the number of younger FSU fans (15% to 17%)...as its the old farts that support UF and FSU in their largest numbers...but younger fans are not following suit in the same numbers.
Page 29 from poll study above:
Information like this is very valuable to UCF's current and potential future TV Partners that shows how young/growing UCF fan base is (under the age of 65), especially considering this poll was taken just 1-2 weeks ago after UCF's worst season of all-time.

Interesting polling numbers on sports including pro sports in there. But the finding relevant here:
UF - 29%
FSU - 19%
UCF - 12%
Miami - 10%
USF - 5%
FIU - 3%
FAU - 1%
So yes, even after a winless season, UCF > Miami and UCF has more than double the fans of USF, who's closer to FIU than they are to UCF in terms of fan support.
Since this poll was taken just about a week ago...and considering what kind of season UCF had...that's a pretty darn good showing.

Our "most popular" ranking should only widen with Miami as we add more and more students/grads.
